"Arcade-quality sports games in the comfort of your living room!" - Official tagline

The Super Sports System (officially abbreviated as the S3, stylized as S3) is a fanonical 5th generation video game console created by JustAlex93.

Details[]

It is a high-performance game console developed and manufactured by Globeworks Games, based on an impressive set of hardware specs shared between it and a new arcade system board introduced around the same time, the Globe3D System, similar in context to SNK's Neo-Geo having both an arcade and home version based on the same specs.

As the name implies, the Super Sports System was made with sports games in mind, most especially Globeworks' own arcade sports titles (i.e. Hole-in-One GolfBig Bad Bowling). Very few third-party developers got the distinction of developing games for the Super Sports System, though they had to agree to make sports-based games for it.

Unlike most other consoles, the Super Sports System's standard 1st party input device is a trackball controller inspired by the control panel of Globeworks' trackball-based arcade games. Traditional gamepads and arcade joysticks were somewhat of an afterthought.

The system is CD-ROM-based, and features four controller ports and four memory card slots. The Super Sports System memory card, referred to as the Super Card, is a proprietary removable storage format and is similar in measurements to a typical credit card, but thicker. It could store up to 20 save files. On certain titles, the player can use the S3 Network Adapter to compete against other players over the internet on the S3 Stadium Network, an online multiplayer service.

Because of its emphasis on sports-based video games, it served a very particular niche, meaning that it didn't sell as well as the likes of the Sony PlayStation, the Nintendo 64, or the Sega Saturn. Despite this, it became a cult classic among fans of sports video games.
