RWBY Remnants Unleashed is a concept fighting game from the RWBY series, developed by Arc System Works and published by Rooster Teeth and Warner Bros Games.

It should be noted that while most of the events that took place in the RWBY series are canon in Remnants Unleashed, this game follows a different reality and timeline and is therefore NOT canon.

Story Mode[]

In "Remnants Unleashed," the story follows the return of Dr. Merlot, a character believed to be deceased. Utilizing the power of grimm essence, he manages to sustain his own life and embarks on a sinister plan to manipulate time and reality. By harnessing the shattered shards of the relics, he disrupts the fabric of existence, causing timelines to merge and intertwine.

Driven by his newfound connection to the grimm, Dr. Merlot aims to retrieve the intact relics from the past. To accomplish this, he dispatches grimm creatures to various locations in the future. These creatures serve as his guardians, along with revenant versions of familiar characters who have been corrupted by grimm essence.

Facing the impending threat of eternal darkness, both the past and future versions of the heroes must join forces. Past and future iterations of beloved characters come together to combat the grimm menace and thwart Dr. Merlot's plans. United, they strive to prevent Remnant, their world, from being consumed by everlasting darkness.

The story of "Remnants Unleashed" explores the epic battle between light and darkness, intertwining timelines, and the resilience of the heroes as they unite across time to protect their world from a formidable threat.

Match mechanics[]

Stamina Meter[]

Stamina Meter

Stamina Meter

The stamina meter in RWBY: Remnants Unleashed is a crucial gameplay element that enhances the combat experience and adds strategic depth to the fights. At the beginning of a match, the stamina meter starts full, indicating the character's stamina reserve. This reserve can be used strategically during combat. The stamina meter can be utilized for wakeup attacks, special move EX, combo breakers, and move cancels. The stamina meter recharges gradually over time, allowing players to regain spent stamina during the course of the match. The recharge rate may vary, and players need to manage their stamina usage wisely, as overexertion can leave them vulnerable. The stamina meter serves as a tactical resource that players must consider when planning their moves and strategies during a fight. Deciding when to use stamina for wakeup attacks, enhanced special moves, or move cancels can significantly impact the flow of battle and the outcome of matches. The inclusion of the stamina meter adds an extra layer of depth to the combat system, encouraging players to balance offense, defense, and resource management. Skilled players will learn to optimize their stamina usage for combo extensions, defensive options, and punishing their opponents.

Semblance[]

Semblance Meter

Semblance Meter

The Semblance Meter in RWBY: Remnants Unleashed is a crucial gameplay mechanic that represents a character's unique aura-based abilities, known as Semblances. The Semblance Meter is a resource gauge that gradually charges over time during a match. It starts empty at the beginning of a round and slowly fills up over time. The meter can also be charged faster by both dealing and taking damage during gameplay. The semblance meter has two uses. The first is an install super mechanic, a powerful transformation or enhancement state unique to each character, often providing temporary advantages or boosted abilities. The second is a super attack, a high-damage move that can be unleashed when the Semblance Meter is fully charged.

Last Stand[]

Last Stand is the game's super move mechanic that can be used once per round but is only available when the player has 30% health or lower and the opponent has match point. It provides an opportunity to turn the tide of the battle and potentially secure a comeback victory. If the move whiffs, it can be reattempted after a cooldown, assuming the round hasn't ended first. The cooldown on whiffed attempts ensures that players must use the Last Stand judiciously and consider the risk-reward aspect of activating it.

Fighting Stances[]

Characters have two different fighting stances that can be toggled and switched out with a single button press and can allow for more complex and intricate combos. Melee Stance is for more hand-to-hand attacks involving punches and kicks. Weapon Stance is for weapon based attacks and if timed correctly, can make great extensions for melee combos. Special moves are universal between the two stances but regular and combo attacks are exclusive to their stance.
