
The PlayStation 5 (abbreviated as PS5) is a home video game console developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, formerly Sony Computer Entertainment. Announced as the successor to the PlayStation 4 during a press conference on December 28, 2019, it was launched on November 15, 2020, in North America and November 30, 2020, in Europe, South America and Australia, and January 31, 2021 in Japan. It competes with Nintendo's Wii U II and Microsoft's Xbox Two as part of the ninth generation of video game consoles.
