PROTOTYPE Zero is the fourth game to the .hack//Prequel Project and the prequel stories to the first game which take a place four years before which is completely new story focus on the beginning life of Edward Brook prior to his career as the professional hackers and programmers also a Cyber Criminal in history, thus ties his story of life.
The prequel story takes a place before the first game, as Edward Brook was used to be a servant to the Alyssian Heir Family and as Shia "Noel" Alyssian's most trustful servant who her family work in the politics and economics also as part of the government, and one day her families had been assassinated by the groups of Hojo Clan who targeting Shia as the heir family, Edward's job is to keep her safe from the assassination.

Synopsis[]
Alyssian, the greatest hold family who participate and involved in many associates, including Government, Business sales, Entertainment, and Education, thus Alyssian Family became the strongest heir family which was known by many publics and become major popularity to the public since after The World War I.
Hiroyuki Mashima the orphan child who was adopted by Alyssian Family and becoming the greatest servant to the next heir of Alyssian Family, Shia "Noel" Alyssian. Both of them are childhood friends and were close to each other as childhood, later became classmates together, and also became close friends, but somehow later become unrequited love. But, as Noel became 18-Years Old, she will get married to another heir family, but this causes strain within Noel's mind due to her parent's decision.
But one day, at night during proposing for marriage, Noel's Family being slaughtered by the terrorist hacker who was been hired by Hojo Clan, and that event bringing an end to the Alyssian Family, except Shia "Noel" Alyssian is the only survivor who now been escaped with Hiroyuki.
Several weeks had passed, Hiroyuki and Noel who's attacked by Bandits saved by the mysterious man, Daniel who seems to take him and Noel to the Orphanage. But his rage and hatred toward Hojo Clan won't disappear from his mind, and Noel still in trauma, she won't be safe if he still kept hiding, and he made the decision for his own revenge against them, by becoming Daniel's apprentice as the Hacker.
Hiroyuki's life has entered into a Cyber Criminal as Hacker and Assassin, In order to avenge their death, he cast away his name and become known as Edward Brook.
