Nickelodeon Underground is an upcoming racing video game developed by Catch 22 Studios and published by THQ Nordic. It is also a crossover featuring various Nickelodeon characters and properties. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Windows & Nintendo Switch.
Gameplay[]
Developed by Catch 22 Studios and described by LoganC22 as "the antithesis of the Nicktoons Racing series", Nickelodeon Underground is a racing game while still being a crossover featuring various Nickelodeon characters and properties. At its core, the game combines these properties and reimagines them with a feel and racing experience not typically found in cartoon racing games to make it a game that truly stands out.
In the main single player game mode, players compete in a massive competition for a top prize. The competition, also called in game as "Nickelodeon Underground", is structured similarly to the "World Tour" mode from Electronic Arts' Burnout series; players must race around several reimagined Nickelodeon-themed tracks at high speeds and attempt to come in first place in each one while holding off opponents with techniques like boost and drfiting.
The game also features several gameplay elements that separate it from recent crossover games. The most notable elements include vehicles and the boost system. Rather than karts featured in Bamtang Games' Nickelodeon Kart Racers trilogy, the game features actual vehicles and bikes updated from the shows that can be purchased and greatly upgraded and customized. The boost system, called Slime and represented on screen by a lime green boost bar, refills automatically over time and quicker if the player drives more recklessly.
Additional gameplay mechanics include the lap count being integrated into the enviroment similar to BugBear Entertainment's Ridge Racer Unbounded, cross-play, and The Noggin, an online social network and cross-save system that takes its name from the now-defunct television channel/streaming service.
Nickelodeon Underground (Competition)[]
The game's main career mode, Nickelodeon Underground (in game) is a massive competition where various characters from several different television shows come together and compete in several high speed racing events for a chance to win the event's top prize in the form of The Slime Gauntlet, a trophy in the shape of a slime green glove with golden fingers. The organizer and host of the competition is a mystery character who is also an opponent that first challenges the player directly before joining the rest of the field in later races. Every vehicle this character drives is shrouded in black paint and blacked out window tints in a similar fashion to Plankton (as the mystery rider) from 2000's Nicktoons Racing.
As stated above, the mode is structured similarly to the "World Tour" mode from the Burnout series; players race around several Nickelodeon-themed locations with the goal of finishing first in each race. Each individual event within the mode awards the player with Dimmabucks, the game's equivalent of cash that can be spent at the player's discretion, and XP, which goes toward their ranking in online play. Instead of being separated into vehicle series or ranks, the mode is separated into ten stages, with each making up exactly 10% of the total career and getting progressively harder as the player goes along. Completion of each stage awards a bonus in Dimmabucks and XP.
The competition is presented to the player in an opening cutscene by SpongeBob SquarePants' Realistic Fish Head, Perch Perkins, and TMNT's April O'Neil, with Perch's voice guiding the player through the following tutorial cutscene.
The Noggin[]
The Noggin is a cloud-based, online social network within the game that takes its name from the recently defunct television channel and streaming service of the same name.
Taking inspiration from EA's Autolog system first introduced in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, The Noggin allows online players to compare various statistics with one another in a competitive fashion. The system tracks a player's progress on a series of leaderboards that reflect that player's career progression, event lap times in online play, XP level and driving achievements with all being uploaded and updated in real time as the player progresses. This is only possible if the system the player is playing on is turned online. If their system is not online, this portion of The Noggin will be disabled by default.
The Noggin is also a cross-save system, enabling players to access their saved progress across several different platforms. To utilize this, players must link their platform account to their THQ Nordic account in the "The Noggin" portion of the "Settings" menu.
Game Modes[]
Collectively, there are 10 types of playable events in the game. The bulk of these events are playable in both single player and online play, although some can only be played in one capacity or the other. Unless otherwise noted, all events feature up to 12 racers at one time.
Single Player Only[]
- Nickelodeon Underground - A series of high speed events compiled into a massive competition, and the game's main career mode. Expanded on in greater detail in its' own heading above, stages of the mode consist of any combination of the events listed below.
- Host's Challenge - A one-on-one event featuring only the player and the host of the competition, with the objective of beating the host and finishing the race in first place. Taking inspiration from the "Showcase" event from Turn 10's Forza Horizon series, the host in this event will drive a flying vehicle that cannot be unlocked for normal use. Once the player completes 50% of the career mode, this event will disappear for the rest of the mode, with the host joining the rest of the field in a typical land vehicle from 50% onward.
- Time Trial - Event featuring only the player where they have to complete a lap around the track and beat a predetermined time.
Single Player/Online[]
- Race - Traditional circuit race around a track with the goal of finishing in first place. This event ranges from 1 lap at the least to 5 laps at the most.
- Knockout - Eliminator-styled event where the racer in last place is eliminated after thirty seconds and the player must be the last racer remaining in the event.
- Top Speed Challenge - Event where the player must accumulate the highest total top speed after one lap in order to win the event. This event takes place on special circuit layouts that are longer than those used in traditional races and is partially inspired by the "Top Speed Run" mode from Need for Speed: ProStreet.
- Dragster - Event where the player must finish a 0.5 mile, 1.0 mile or 1.5 mile long drag race in first place. Drag races require the use of manual and timed gear changes and Slime nitrous in order for the player to be successful. This event features 6 racers at one time.
- Tag Team - A circuit race featuring the twelve racers, but split into 4 groups of three. For this event, after the player selects their character and vehicle, the game will randomly pick any two characters and vehicles from their collection as teammates. After each successful lap, the player’s current character/vehicle will switch into the next chosen character/vehicle in the trio until their last one appears, with this one finishing the race. This event is always three laps long and is directly inspired by the “Relay” event from Nicktoons Racing.
- Drift Run - Event with the objective of scoring the highest amount of points possible by drifting around one lap of the track. For the best results, players can use Slime nitrous and chain drifts into combos for a multiplayer in points produced. If the player hits any walls during their run, the combo will be over and no points will be earned. This event features 6 racers at one time, with each one individually following the other around the track.
- Slime Prix - A grand prix-styled event at the end of each stage. Each race in the Slime Prix awards points based on where the player finishes, and the overall objective is to finish the Slime Prix with the most points. Slime Prix events predominately feature every event type except Dragster, Host's Challenge, Time Trial and Drift Run and the event as a whole varies in size from three events at the least to five at the most. If played online, the organizer can choose how many events can be included.

Trivia[]
- The first Idea created by LoganC22 and his company Catch 22 Studios for 2025.
- It is also the first game in LoganC22's three-game five year anniversary celebration block on Fandom.
- It is also the fifteenth overall Game Idea created by him to date.
- It is also the first crossover created since 2023's Burnout Paradise Presents: Cartoon Network - The City, and the fourth overall to date.
- The second project between Catch 22 Studios and THQ Nordic, following 2021's MX vs. ATV: Resurrection. At a gap of just over three and half years, this is the longest stretch of time that a Catch 22-created game features a returning publisher.
- Excluding the Nintendo Switch, this is the first game since 2023's Victory, Inc. and the fourth overall to be developed for ninth generation home consoles.
- According to LoganC22, ports for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were planned, but were cancelled early in development in order to take advantage of the ninth generation consoles' capabilities.
- In the main teaser and full length trailer for the game, a male voice will say "It's going to be the race of a lifetime" before cutting to the Nickelodeon Underground logo. This is a callback to the opening cutscene from 2000's Nicktoons Racing, in which the quote is said verbatim by an on-scene announcer.
- This led many within the gaming community to speculate that the game is a spiritual successor to Nicktoons Racing. In March 2025, LoganC22 confirmed that to be the case.
- Similar to Victory, Inc., if the player owns the Ultimate Edition of the game, the color scheme within the menus will change for approximately forty-five seconds every fifteen minutes from base game's colors of black and violet purple to the Ultimate Edition's colors of black and slime green and back again. If the player only owns the base edition, no such color change will occur.
- The game's cash currency, Dimmabucks, is a reference to Doug Dimmadome, a well known character from The Fairly Oddparents and owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmodome.
- The game's logo screens can be found in the video here, with it being created by LoganC22 using Canva.
- In similar fashion, the game's Slime Gauntlet trophy was also created on Canva by him.
- At 100% completion, the player will be awarded with one episode of every cartoon represented in game. These episodes can be viewed in the settings menu.
- The identity of the mystery host of the competition and opponent can be found here. This is also revealed to the player when they complete the game.
- When in a relay event, the new character the player switches to each lap will be introduced in a fashion similar to any police unit from EA’s Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010).
- In the soundtrack, the only shows not represented with a remixed version of their respective theme songs are The Wild Thornberry's, T.U.F.F. Puppy, Breadwinners, and El Tigre. According to LoganC22, this is because no remixed version of their theme songs were available.
