NASCAR Racing 2020 Season (also known as NR2020), is a racing simulation video game developed and published by NASCAR Media Group for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Steam, and Microsoft Windows systems. The simulation features multiple improvements from last year's edition as well as an updated roster and paint schemes to match the 2020 racing season.
Features & Gameplay[]
NR2020 will feature similar gameplay to its prequels along with some minor improvements and one new game mode. When playing in Arcade Mode, drivers can use "Race Mods" which can alter their car to give it an edge on the competition. "Rush", "Resistance", "Flashback", "Avoidance", "Mobility", "Afterburner", "Aftertouch", "Tandem", and "Formation" return from previous entries along with one new Race Mod, "Aero Push".
- Rush: Once a speed of at least 180 MPH is achieved, Rush will be activated. Rush gives a sense of speed to the player and does not affect the car at all.
- Resistance: Used to slow down time during a crash. Though can only be used a certain amount of times during a race, can determine weather you win or lose.
- Flashback: If you do get caught in a crash, Flashback will allow you to rewind to before the accident. However, you only get one Flashback per race.
- Avoidance: If you begin to spinout, Avoidance will automatically turn your car around keeping it from wrecking or becoming airborne.
- Mobility: Keeps your car from taking too much damage when wrecking no matter how bad the wreck.
- Tandem: Pulls the car in front of you right back to your front bumper. Only works on plate tracks.
- Afterburner: Fuel will not be burned for one lap, push as hard as you want. Perfect for endurance however can only be used once per race.
- Aftertouch: When your car goes airborne, simply apply aftertouch to slow down time and control your car. This gives you the option to either make an attempt to correct the accident and escape more safely, or steer your car back into traffic to exact revenge.
- Formation: Exclusive to restrictor plate tracks, Formation will allow you to signal for cars to pull in line with you when switching lanes. At least one car will be guaranteed to move behind you or in front of you. This can be pivotal for a lap lap pass.
- Aero Push: Exclusive to restrictor plate tracks, Aero Push will allow your spoiler to "lift up" in order to allow better airflow to the back of the car. Doing this will allow the player to gain more speed and catch up to the car in front of them.

Soundtrack[]
NASCAR Racing 2020 Season is the first installment in the series to not feature a full length soundtrack. Music instead, can be played directly to the game by linking Spotify (Xbox / PlayStation / Desktop) and/or iTunes (Desktop) accounts. The game will use "smart delivery" to determine when to use music (such as in menus) and when to either lower it, or turn it off altogether (such as while racing). Settings can be adjusted so music either never plays (for streaming) or continuously plays.
Release[]
NASCAR Racing 2020 Season was announced in early 2020. Similar to previous entries, NR2020 had various closed and open betas throughout its development. Betas allowed players with access to race on select tracks with a limited field of AI drivers. A multiplayer beta was also held that allowed drivers to compete on select tracks with up to 39 other drivers online.
NR2020 was officially released to the public on December 27, 2020. The base game shipped with all three series and full track lineup along with additional fantasy content created by the developers. Also available at launch are all the downloadable content packs, for free. This was the first release in the series to not feature a Season Pass or any additional post-launch content of any kind. This was a chosen by the developers as the next installment in the franchise will receive a "massive overhaul" on how content is presented and delivered. Though not officially known at this time, it is expected that the franchise is moving to a "service" structure.
NR2020 Ignition[]
NR Ignition was a feature included as an additional, purchasable service for downloadable content created by both the developers and players in previous installments. Due to the developers wanting to focus on the future of the franchise, NR2020 Ignition was released to the public for free for the first time. However developers will now be doing any modding themselves due to the quick turnaround they are looking at to release the next installment.
Editions[]
Standard Edition[]
The Standard Edition on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, and Microsoft Windows, will feature all drivers and tracks included with the base game. Using the Race Engine X7 for graphics and Speedway Engine X7 for sound, the Standard Edition will feature forty-three player matchmaking and support additional content throughout the season. The Standard Edition will retail for $59.99. A photo of Matt DiBenedetto will appear on the cover.
Raceway Edition[]
The Raceway Edition will be made available on all systems and will feature the complete game along with a few additional and exclusive content. Aside from the base game, an exclusive paint scheme pack featuring cars made by the developers themselves will also be included. Physical content will include a 1:64 diecast of 2019 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series Champion, Kyle Busch, and a signed poster by the developers featuring a photo of the 2020 Daytona 500. The Raceway Edition will retail for $69.99 with Kyle Busch appearing on the cover.
Speedway Edition[]
The Speedway Edition will be made available on all systems and will feature the complete game along with a few additional and exclusive content. Aside from the base game, an exclusive paint scheme pack featuring cars made by the developers themselves will also be included along with an additional pack featuring paint schemes designed by some drivers. A closed beta key for the next NASCAR Racing installment will also be included. Physical content will include a 1:24 diecast of 2020 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series Champion, Kyle Busch and a signed poster by the developers featuring a photo of the 2020 Daytona 500. Also included will be a free ticket to any NASCAR XFINITY Series race along with an additional free ticket to any NASCAR Cup Series event. The Speedway Edition will retail for $99.99 and feature Dale Earnhardt, Jr. on the cover.
Trivia[]
- The "Aftertouch" Race Mod is based on the feature of the same name in the video game, Burnout 3.
- The "Aero Push" Race Mod is based on the DRS system featured on modern Formula 1 racing cars.
- Fantasy Track, Florida Street Course, is based off the layout and atmosphere of the St. Petersburg Street Course.
