My Hero Academia vs. Sengoku Basara is a crossover fighting game developed by Capcom and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is a crossover between the manga/anime series My Hero Academia by Kohei Horikoshi and the Sengoku Basara game series by Capcom. It is also the first installment of the Shonen Jump vs. Capcom fighting game series.

Gameplay

Like other Capcom fighting games, My Hero Academia vs. Sengoku Basara is a 2D fighting game in which players compete against each other in combat. In this game, a Sidekick system is introduced, where players can choose one character from the roster as assistance but cannot be used in combat. To defeat the opponent, players must use various attacks in their arsenal, such as Sidekick assists, special moves, and Ultimate Moves, which can only be used when the Ultimate Move bar reaches its maximum. All of the previously mentioned attacks can also be performed in the air. There is also an Awakening mechanic, which grants increased damage output, speed, and health bar regeneration for a limited time. Awakening can also be performed in the air.

My Hero Academia vs. Sengoku Basara has various costumes and cosmetics that can be purchased through the store or playing Mission mode. To purchase costumes and cosmetics in the store, players must use Coins obtained after playing Arcade or Mission mode.

Game Modes

My Hero Academia vs. Sengoku Basara has six game modes. Among others :

Story

Story is a mode where players play the game's story campaign consisting of fourteen chapters. Completing this mode gives players the freedom to choose any chapter at will.

Arcade

Arcade is a mode where players choose two characters (one to play and one as a Sidekick) to fight against a series of AI-controlled opponents before facing the final boss. Every time players complete this mode they will get a number of Coins.

Versus

Versus is a mode where one or two players can fight solo against AI-controlled opponents or against each other. Players do not earn Coins from completing this mode.

Mission

Mission is a mode where players choose two characters (one to play and one as a Sidekick) to complete various challenges given by the game. Players will get a number of Coins or costumes and cosmetics after completing this mode.

Online

Online is a mode where players can play online with other players using an internet connection. Players do not earn Coins from completing this mode.

Training

Training is a mode where players choose two characters (one to play and one as a Sidekick) to practice their fighting abilities. Players do not earn Coins from completing this mode.

Plot

Prologue

One night in 1600, at Osaka Castle, in the middle of the darkness, three men were observing something in a "magic smoke". In the smoke, the heroes and villains of My Hero Academia are seen fighting using their "Quirks". One of the men, Motonari Mori, comments on how disgusting Quirks are and the people who use them, believing that people in the future have regressed. One man, Yoshitsugu Otani, agreed, arguing that their struggles as samurai had been forgotten and therefore, they should teach them a lesson. The one remaining man, the mysterious Tenkai, agrees but also states that they need help from the My Hero Academia universe and therefore, he believes that they should ally with the villains of the Paranormal Liberation Front. Motonari agrees, saying that they would be valuable pawns for their plan.

Chapter 1 : Deku

Meanwhile in the world of My Hero Academia, the heroes are busy fighting the villains of the Paranormal Liberation Front. Among the heroes are Deku and Bakugo who are struggling against the villains. Elsewhere, in a laboratory, Tomura Shigaraki is in the process of improving his Quirk. Unfortunately for Shigaraki, he is interrupted by the heroes who attack him and ultimately derail the process. Due to pressure, Shigaraki decides to use his Quirk Decay to kill the heroes. Because of Shigaraki's Quirk, Jaku City is destroyed, causing the deaths of many heroes and villains, with some, such as Deku and Bakugo, still surviving.

After surviving the destruction of Jaku City, Deku and Bakugo are attacked by Shigaraki who is targeting Deku. Deku and Bakugo fight him and ultimately defeat him. Shigaraki gets back up, ready to fight the two. At the same time, Shoto, Endeavor, and the surviving heroes try to help Deku and Bakugo. As everyone attacks, smoke suddenly appears and suddenly, Deku, Bakugo, Shoto, and Shigaraki disappear, confusing the heroes.

After coughing from the smoke, Deku is surprised to find he is in an ancient Japanese castle with dragon statues everywhere. In the midst of his confusion, he is suddenly approached by someone who called him an "intruder". Deku turned to the person and saw a man wearing a brown jacket and carrying a katana. Deku asks where he is. The man replied that he, Kojuro Katakura, would not answer to an intruder. Kojuro then attacks Deku, forcing him to fight back. In the end, Deku defeats Kojuro.

After defeating Kojuro, Deku is attacked from behind by a samurai dressed in blue and wearing a helmet. Fortunately, Deku managed to dodge. The samurai stated that he is in a bad mood and attacking an intruder would make him feel better. Deku asks the samurai who he is, to which the samurai replies that he is the One-Eyed Dragon, Masamune Date, much to Deku's surprise. Masamune then attacks, with Deku continuously dodging before finally fighting him. In the end, Masamune is defeated. Troops suddenly came from everywhere, surrounding Deku. Kojuro then comes to his senses. Deku then stated to everyone that he is not an intruder because he himself suddenly found himself in this place. Suddenly, Kojuro hits Deku's head from behind, knocking him out. Masamune then comes to his senses and insists on killing Deku, but Kojuro disagrees, arguing that they should interrogate him first, to which Masamune reluctantly agrees.

At Osaka Castle, smoke suddenly appeared. From the smoke, Shigaraki appears, weak and confused about where he is. Suddenly, he is approached by Yoshitsugu, Motonari, and Tenkai. Shigaraki tries to attack them, but Yoshitsugu immediately attacks him with his orb. Yoshitsugu asks Shigaraki to calm down, with Shigaraki replying who they are and where he is. Motonari states that they are Yoshitsugu Otani, Motonari Mori, and Tenkai. Shigaraki doesn't immediately believe it, remembering that the three died hundreds of years ago. Tenkai mentions that he used his magic smoke which transported Shigaraki to Osaka Castle. Despite his confusion and disbelief, Shigaraki asks what they want from him. Yoshitsugu says that he wants Shigaraki to meet someone. Inside Osaka Castle, Shigaraki meets Mitsunari Ishida, the new leader of the Toyotomi clan. Mitsunari explains that he heard from Yoshitsugu that the world Shigaraki lives in is "miserable" and that he needs an explanation from him. Shigaraki explains that in his world, people have Quirks that give them superpowers, and from superpowers, heroes and villains, like himself, exist. When asked about the Toyotomi clan by Mitsunari, Shigaraki states that not only the Toyotomi clan, but all samurai are forgotten since the emergence of the heroes. Hearing that, Mitsunari angrily destroys the room they are in, claiming that Hideyoshi Toyotomi has worked hard to build the country but they forgot him and therefore, they will pay for it. Shigaraki, who saw Mitsunari's tantrum regarding the heroes, began to become interested in him. Seeing this, Motonari realizes that Yoshitsugu is trying to build an alliance by making Mitsunari hate the heroes as much as Shigaraki, with Tenkai calling him "very clever". Yoshitsugu then approached Shigaraki and invited him to form an alliance because their enemies are the same, namely the heroes. Shigaraki replies that "He's interested", indicating his agreement.

Chapter 2 : Yukimura Sanada

At Ueda Castle, a young man dressed in red is sitting facing an old man who is lying weakly. This young man, Yukimura Sanada, promised the old man before him, Shingen Takeda, to avenge their defeat against Tokugawa Ieyasu. Suddenly from behind, a shinobi/ninja appeared and greeted Yukimura. Yukimura looked at the shinobi and said his name : Sasuke Sarutobi. Sasuke asks about their training, considering Yukimura wants to prove to Mitsunari to let him ally with him to defeat Ieyasu. Yukimura agrees and, in the castle grounds, fights Sasuke until he defeats him.

After training, Yukimura helped Sasuke up. Suddenly, a soldier ran towards the two of them and reported that there is an intruder on Kai's outskirts. Together with Sasuke, Yukimura rides a horse to the outskirts of Kai. When they arrived there, they found many Takeda clan soldiers who had been defeated. When Yukimura asked who the cause was, Sasuke suddenly pushed Yukimura from his horse, causing him to be hit by an explosion and faint while the horse died. A shocked Yukimura turned towards the source of the explosion and saw Bakugo. Yukimura immediately attacks Bakugo who is thought to have infiltrated Kai and, after a fight, manages to defeat him.

After defeating Bakugo, Yukimura helps Sasuke who wakes up. Sasuke asks who Bakugo is, to which Yukimura replies that he doesn't know either. When Sasuke asks what they will do with him, Yukimura decides to take him to Ueda Castle. Meanwhile in Oshu, Deku wakes up to find himself tied up. In front of him are Masamune and Kojuro, who interrogate him regarding his identity. Without hesitation, Deku untied the rope with his Quirk, surprising both of them. Deku asks Masamune and Kojuro to calm down as he is willing to explain everything. After Deku explained at length about his identity, his world, and how he got here, a soldier suddenly came to the three of them and reported that Mitsunari, the man who had humiliated Masamune before, would be at Ueda Castle. Masamune, who heard this, became eager to take revenge on Mitsunari and told Kojuro to prepare an army. The soldier also adds that they heard that Yukimura brought a mysterious boy who can emit explosions to Ueda Castle. Realizing that it is Bakugo, Deku asks to come along. Although Masamune initially refused, after being convinced that he could help them, Masamune finally agreed.

At Ueda Castle, Yukimura observes Bakugo lying unconscious, commenting on his strange power. Sasuke then comes to Yukimura, stating that Mitsunari has arrived. Quickly, Yukimura came to Mitsunari. Mitsunari stated their previous agreement, if Yukimura was able to defeat Mitsunari in a duel, then Yukimura would be accepted as an ally. Yukimura agrees and duels Mitsunari, which Yukimura wins.

After the duel, Yukimura tries to help Mitsunari up but is brushed off. Despite this, Mitsunari recognizes Yukimura and accepts him as an ally against Ieyasu. Suddenly, a voice is heard calling Mitsunari. After turning around, everyone found Masamune, Kojuro, and Deku at the gate of Ueda Castle. Masamune states that he wanted to avenge his defeat against Mitsunari, to which Mitsunari responded by asking who Masamune is. Knowing that Mitsunari does not recognize him because he is "unimportant", Masamune angrily lunges at Mitsunari. But suddenly, Yukimura fends off Masamune's attack with his two yari. While this is happening, Deku goes inside the castle to look for Bakugo, who is followed by Sasuke. Masamune angrily demands Yukimura to step aside, but Yukimura refuses, stating that he will protect Mitsunari at the cost of his life. Because his anger could no longer be contained, Masamune fought Yukimura, only to be defeated by him.

After the fight, Mitsunari decided to leave and ordered Yukimura to prepare the Takeda clan against Ieyasu. Seeing Mitsunari leaving, Masamune tries to restrain him but is blocked by Yukimura. In the end, Masamune beats Yukimura until he is helpless, before trying to kill him with one of his katanas. Suddenly, a hand stopped the katana. When he turned around, he saw Deku holding Masamune's katana. Masamune angrily tells Deku to let him go, but Deku refuses, insisting that Yukimura has spared Bakugo, and for that, he will spare Yukimura. Kojuro then advises Masamune to leave, because Mitsunari has also left. Even though he is emotional, Masamune agreed to this, but he kicked Deku out because he was preventing him from killing Yukimura. Afterwards, Masamune, along with Kojuro and the Date clan troops, left Ueda Castle, leaving Deku, Yukimura, and Sasuke behind.

Chapter 3 : Uravity

Meanwhile in the world of My Hero Academia, in class A's Heights Alliance, class A students are discussing the disappearance of Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto. Among them is Uravity who is worried about Deku. Her friend Froppy told her not to worry because she is sure that they will be fine. Uravity then left the others. In the evening, while the other students are sleeping, Uravity quietly slips out. From behind, she is called by Red Riot who noticed her sneaking. Red Riot finds out that Uravity wants to find Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto. When Uravity confirmed it, Red Riot offers to help her, because he wants to save his friend Bakugo. Uravity agrees and together, they go to the desolated Jaku City. In Jaku City, Uravity and Red Riot walk around while looking at the desolated condition of the city. Suddenly, they are attacked by Mr. Compress and Spinner. Uravity questions the whereabouts of Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto, but Spinner instead demands that the two of them return Shigaraki before ultimately fighting them. In the end, Uravity and Red Riot manages to defeat both of them.

After defeating Mr. Compress and Spinner, Red Riot tells Uravity about what Spinner said about Shigaraki's disappearance. Uravity says that it is strange, but they should focus on finding Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto. Suddenly, they are attacked by Himiko Toga and Dabi. Dabi asks where Shigaraki is, to which Uravity replies that they don't know either and that they are also looking for Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto. Dabi, however, doesn't believe it, and alongside Himiko, fights Uravity and Red Riot, only to be defeated by both of them.

After defeating Himiko Toga and Dabi, Red Riot suggests that they get out of here. Suddenly, smoke appeared, which immediately surrounded Uravity, Red Riot, Himiko Toga, Dabi, Mr. Compress, and Spinner. After the smoke suddenly clears, Uravity and Red Riot realize that they are not in Jaku City but at Itsukushima shrine. Suddenly, a voice calls out to them, stating that he accidentally brought them with the villains. When the two looked at the source of the sound, they saw Tenkai and Shigaraki. Shigaraki realizes that Uravity and Red Riot have defeated his friends and therefore, he wants to avenge them. Tenkai tells Shigaraki to calm down, stating that a quick kill would not be fun and therefore, they will torture them first before killing them. Uravity and Red Riot then fought Tenkai and Shigaraki until they manages to defeat them.

After defeating Tenkai and Shigaraki, Motonari arrives. Uravity asks where are they. Motonari says that they are far from their home and time before finally fighting them. In the end, Motonari is defeated by Uravity and Red Riot. Shortly after their victory, Uravity and Red Riot are invaded by Mori clan forces. Red Riot suggests they run away to which Uravity agrees. Unfortunately, Spinner woke up and threw a shuriken at Uravity's left leg, causing her to fall. Red Riot tries to help Uravity, but because the Mori clan troops are getting closer, Uravity told Red Riot to leave her behind, which Red Riot reluctantly did. Uravity is then captured, and as she is about to be killed by Tenkai, Motonari stops him, stating that she might be useful in the future. Uravity is then taken into the shrine. Meanwhile, the villains are happy to see Shigaraki but also ask where they are now, which Shigaraki then explains.

Chapter 4 : Masamune Date

Meanwhile in Kai, Masamune is in the middle of a journey with Kojuro and his troops. Kojuro asks what Masamune will do next, to which he replies that he will go to Sunpu Castle to kill Ieyasu, which surprises Kojuro. Masamune explains that Mitsunari is obsessed with killing Ieyasu. Therefore, he planned to kill Ieyasu first so that Mitsunari could focus on himself. Kojuro tries to stop Masamune by saying that Masamune will make the Date clan an enemy of all the clans of eastern Japan after killing their leader Ieyasu. And besides, the road to Sunpu Castle is blocked by collapsed trees. However, Masamune doesn't care, saying that he is willing to make the Date clan an enemy of all the clans of eastern Japan. And if they can't take the nearest route, then they will take the long route through the ruins of Azuchi Castle. Suddenly, Kojuro moves in front of Masamune and blocks him. Kojuro states that he will not allow Masamune to do something stupid and selfish like that. Masamune becomes angry, demanding Kojuro to step aside. However, Kojuro refuses. While slowly drawing out his katana, Kojuro states that Masamune must defeat him first, which causes Masamune to draw out his katana as well. The Date clan soldiers can only be silent and confuse by the current situation, while Masamune began to fight with Kojuro, ultimately defeating him.

After Kojuro's defeat, Masamune demands him to surrender and follow his wish. Kojuro firmly refuses, which causes Masamune to raise his katana in an attempt to attack Kojuro. However, the Date clan soldiers held him back saying that they should not fight here. Masamune sighs, as he put his katana back into its sheath and orders the soldiers to bring Kojuro. Although somewhat worry for Masamune, the soldiers do as he wishes and continued their journey. In front of the ruins of Azuchi Castle, Masamune and his troops pass by. Inside the castle, a shadowy female figure watches Masamune and his troops. Suddenly, shadowy hands emerges from the ground and attacks the Date clan troops. Masamune manages to escape the attack and discovers that the perpetrator is Oichi, the younger sister of the Demon King of the Sixth Heaven Nobunaga Oda who had died many years ago. Oichi is angry that Masamune trespassed on her territory before ultimately trying to kill him. In the end, Masamune won the fight.

After defeating Oichi, Masamune goes to check on his troops. One of the soldiers stated that many were injured and they should rest first before continuing their journey. An annoyed Masamune went to his horse. When asked where he is going, Masamune states that he is going to Sunpu Castle alone. The Date clan troops try to stop him but Masamune, who doesn't care anymore, rides on his horse. Meanwhile, Kojuro starts to wake up and asks where Masamune is. After some time, Masamune finally arrived at Sunpu Castle. Suddenly, he is attacked by a giant robot named Tadakatsu Honda. Masamune states to Tadakatsu that he had come to confront Ieyasu, who responded with another attack. Masamune then faces Tadakatsu and manages to defeat him.

After Masamune defeated Tadakatsu, someone suddenly calls Tadakatsu's name. That person is Ieyasu. After checking on Tadakatsu, Ieyasu asks Masamune what he was doing. Masamune said that Tadakatsu was preventing him from facing Ieyasu. Ieyasu then askes what he want from him, to which Masamune replies by saying that he wants to kill Ieyasu so that Mitsunari could focus on himself. Ieyasu is silent when he heard this, before finally being willing to fight Masamune. Masamune then succeeded in defeating Ieyasu. After that, Masamune raise his katana, wanting to kill Ieyasu. Suddenly, his katana is held by Kojuro who catches up with Masamune, along with the Date clan troops. Masamune demands Kojuro to let him go. However, Kojuro refuses while remaining silent. He then push Masamune and told him that he will not let Masamune do anything stupid again. Masamune prepares to fight Kojuro once again, but suddenly, the Date clan troops raise their weapons while stating that they will not let Masamune do anything stupid either. Masamune is silent before asking Kojuro why is he doing this. Kojuro slowly approaches Masamune and said that he will not let Masamune regret his stupid actions again, just like once. Masamune is silent, before finally lowering his weapon and kneeling, while saying to himself what he had been thinking. Ieyasu approaches Masamune and told him to go inside the castle to calm down.

Meanwhile at Kai, Yukimura is sitting while looking at Shingen who is lying down. Suddenly, Deku slowly approaches him and sits beside him. Deku asks about Shingen, to which Yukimura replies that he is his mentor. Deku then said about his mentor, All Might. Yukimura asks about All Might, to which Deku replies that All Might is his hero and that he also wants to be like him. Hearing this, Yukimura gets up from his seat and states what he has to do.

Chapter 5 : Shoto

Meanwhile in Echigo, more precisely at Kasugayama Castle, Shoto is seen lying unconscious. Slowly, he opens his eyes and sees himself in a room. Suddenly, someone approaches him and asks how he is. Shoto asks who he is, to which he only replies that he had fought with him yesterday. Flashback to yesterday, where Shoto comes out of the smoke and found himself inside Kasugayama Castle. Shoto, who is confused, is then approached by a man with a small monkey on his shoulder. The man states that Shoto is an intruder, to which Shoto asks where he is and who he is. The man replies that he is at Kasugayama Castle, and that he is Keiji Maeda. Shoto is shocked and in disbelief while stating that Keiji Maeda died hundreds of years ago. Hearing this, Keiji laughs at Shoto and calls him a mad, before trying to arrest him. In the end, Keiji is defeated by Shoto in a duel.

After defeating Keiji, Shoto is attacked again by a female shinobi/ninja named Kasuga. Kasuga asks about Keiji's condition, to which he replies that he is fine. Shoto asks who Kasuga is, to which she replies by stating that she is a loyal follower of Kenshin Uesugi and that she will not allow his sacred residence to be stepped on by a stranger. Kasuga, along with Keiji, then fight Shoto before both of them are defeated by him.

After Shoto defeated Kasuga and Keiji, suddenly from behind someone dresses in white appears. He said that Shoto bravely entered his residence and fought two of his soldiers. Hearing this, Shoto asks who he is, to which he replies that he is Kenshin Uesugi. Shoto is shocked to hear this and denies the current situation, saying that both Keiji and Kenshin should have died hundreds of years ago. Suddenly, Keiji attacks Shoto from behind, causing him to faint. Kasuga is annoyed by Keiji's actions, saying that Shoto is still talking to Kenshin. But Kenshin said that there is no need to worry, because they will take care of him until he regained consciousness. Keiji complains that Shoto had just beaten him, but Kenshin doesn't care about that and instead orders him to take Shoto inside. In the present, Shoto realizes that who is in front of him now is Kenshin. Kenshin then asks what Shoto meant by that Kenshin and Keiji should have died hundreds of years ago. Shoto answers by explaining the conditions regarding his universe and the conditions of the samurai. Kasuga then comes and reports to Kenshin about the Takeda clan troops moving towards Kawanakajima. Kenshin is confused, remembering that Shingen is in ill. Kasuga states that Yukimura is leading the squad, with Sasuke and Deku behind him. Kenshin then orders Kasuga to prepare the Uesugi clan troops. Meanwhile, Shoto, who heard about Deku, offers to come along to meet him. Even though Kasuga forbids him, Kenshin decides to let Shoto come along for Deku's sake.

Meanwhile, the Takeda clan troops have just enter Kawanakajima. Deku, who is with Yukimura, asks why he is coming, to which Yukimura replies that he might need Deku in battle. Deku then expresses his opinion regarding Yukimura's idea of ​​fighting against the Uesugi clan, which he thought is dangerous. Yukimura states that Shingen would definitely do the same as him. Suddenly, they are attacked by dozens of arrows. With his Quirk, Deku made the arrows fly in another direction, although some still hit the Takeda clan soldiers. Suddenly, the Uesugi clan forces attack, leading to the battle at Kawanakajima. Meanwhile, Shoto fights several Takeda clan warriors before fighting Sasuke. Shoto finally manages to defeat Sasuke.

Yukimura, seeing Sasuke defeated, rushes to attack Shoto. Shoto then asks Deku, to which Yukimura states that Deku is with him, and that he won't let Shoto hurt him. Yukimura is then defeated by Shoto. The battle stops after Yukimura's defeat. Kenshin slowly approaches Yukimura. Suddenly, Deku confronts Kenshin, who is then surprised to see Shoto beside Kenshin. Shoto explains what happened to him, while a happy Deku states that Bakugo is at Ueda Castle. Kenshin then approaches Yukimura again, commenting on Yukimura's stupid action. Yukimura states that he just wants to be like Shingen. Hearing this, Kenshin advises Yukimura by saying that he is indeed a tiger, but he is not the Tiger of Kai like Shingen. Everyone cannot be the person they idolize, but they can be inspired by that person to become great people themselves. All the soldiers, Deku, Shoto, Sasuke, and Yukimura fell silent hearing this. Yukimura then gets up and thanks Kenshin for his advice before ordering the Takeda clan forces to retreat back to Kai. Shoto decides to come with Deku to Kai, which Kenshin allows. Deku then apologizes to Yukimura, to which he smiles in return.

At Osaka Castle, the villains discuss what they will do next. Mitsunari urges the others to immediately attack the My Hero Academia universe, but Motonari refuses, stating that they don't know what the condition of the My Hero Academia universe is like. Hearing this, Shigaraki suggests to Motonari and Yoshitsugu to go first to his universe and observe the conditions, to find advantages for them. Motonari and Yoshitsugu agreed. Suddenly, Tenkai volunteers to join, on the grounds that he could give advice. The villains agree with this.
