Monster Jam: Metalstorm is a future arcade-styled sports racing video game developed by Catch 22 Studios and published by Milestone. The tenth game in the Monster Jam series, the game will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Windows and Nintendo Switch.
Gameplay[]
Developed by Catch 22 Studios, Monster Jam: Metalstorm is a racing game featuring Monster Jam, a motorsport event tour owned by Feld Entertainment and sanctioned by the United States Hot Rod Association (USHRA), with monster trucks prominently featured within the entertainment. Billed as a spiritual successor to Activision's Monster Jam: Urban Assault (2008), the game presents a unique feel and experience that makes it stand out from recent Monster Jam releases.
Core gameplay revolves around the "Monster Series", a large globetrotting game mode that serves as the game's main career mode. The mode encompasses two different tours: the "Stadium Tour", which focuses on stadium-set events and the eponymous "Metalstorm Tour" that focuses on events in environments away from the stadium. Every location in the game is based on its real life counterpart, and the overall objective of each event within the mode is to either finish a race in first place or score the most points, which can be done by performing stunts.
The game features a vast variety of monster trucks and liveries that the player can collect and drive. Throughout the career, players rack up cash, which can be used to purchase said trucks and liveries and Fan Points, the game's version of Experience Points (XP) that can be used to purchase/unlock certain trucks and liveries that can't be purchased with cash. Fan points are also used toward upgrading Boosts, mod-like perks that increase point totals for specific stunts. Similar to 2024's Monster Jam Showdown (also published by Milestone), the game utilizes a dual-analog stick control scheme; the left stick controls the front tires and turns the truck while it's on the ground, while the right stick controls the back tires and the truck while it's in the air. Players must utilize both sticks in order to effectively control their truck and perform as many stunts as possible.
Other gameplay elements include a rechargeable nitro system, cross-play online support, VR support and RePlay, a mechanic that allows players to record their sessions or save select moments in events and share them online for others to view.
Monster Series[]
The game's main career mode, the Monster Series is a large game mode made up of two connected but different globetrotting tours in the Stadium Tour and the Metalstorm Tour. As highlighted in the above heading, the Stadium Tour is a series of several events taking place inside stadiums only and the Metalstorm Tour features several events set in various environments away from the stadium. Players can complete one tour at a time, or progress through both at once by individually completing events in each.
Regardless of which tour the player is competing in, each event awards the player with cash and Fan Points; all of which can be spent at the player's discretion. Completion of each tour awards the player with a bonus in cash and Fan Points, as well as a special trophy exclusive to that tour. While the campaign is available in single player only, each event is individually playable in both single player and online play. Unless otherwise noted, every event fields 8 total trucks (including the player’s) at a time.
Stadium Tour[]
- Freestyle - Event featuring only the player's truck in an open stadium. Players must perform stunts and chain them into as many combos as possible within two minutes and earn the most points against seven opponents in order to win. Functioning very similarly to the freestyle mode from Monster Jam Showdown, if the player is in the middle of a combo when the regulation time expires, they will go into "Bonus Time", allowing them to continue the event for as long as possible until their combo is finally completed. If the player wrecks in the middle of a combo and can't save their truck, their combo and potential total of points accumulated will be lost and they'll have to start it again.
- Teamstyle - Offshoot of Freestyle featuring the player's truck and one other truck as the player's teammate. In this mode, the eight truck field is represented as four groups of two and the overall objective is to be the team with the highest amount of points after two minutes. Core mechanics remain the same although unlike Freestyle, there is no Bonus Time. If the player has enough trucks unlocked in their collection, they can choose the truck their teammate will drive.
- Two Wheel Challenge - Offshoot of Freestyle where only stunts involving two wheels will be counted toward the player's score. Like Freestyle, this mode features only the player's truck and the overall objective remains the same. However, like Teamstyle, there is no Bonus Time and rather than two minutes, players have one minute and thirty seconds to work with.
- Race Eliminator - Elimination-styled event formatted in the same way as real time racing. Trucks compete head to head in rounds on a track in the stadium with the winning truck moving on to each round. Players will have to win all three rounds to be victorious for the whole event.
- Speedway Run - Circuit racing that takes place on a track inside of a speedway venue. Unlike Race, this event is always 3-5 laps long on average. To be victorious, players must finish first in the race.
- Possibly more events to be added here.
Metalstorm Tour[]
- Maximum Destruction - The Metalstorm Tour's equivalent of Freestyle. Taking its name from the iconic monster truck of the same name, the mode emphasizes destruction of the environment around the player on top of performing stunts. In addition to getting points from said stunts, players get additional points for how much environmental damage they cause, which contributes toward their ending point total. The overall objective of Freestyle remains the same here and the Bonus Time mechanic is also present.
- Race - Traditional circuit racing around a track with the goal of finishing in first place. Race events are always 3 laps long. On certain track layouts, players have opportunities to create their own shortcuts, which counts as a stunt.
- Eliminator - Offshoot of Race where the racer in last place is eliminated after thirty seconds. Players have to be the last truck remaining after four total minutes in order to win the event.
- Showdown - Offshoot of Race featuring only the player and one other opponent. Taking inspiration for its name from Monster Jam Showdown, the objective of Race remains the same here.
- Crush Hour - Offshoot of Race featuring half the field racing in one direction and the other half racing in the opposite direction. This mode functions very similarly to the “Head to Head” mode from Urban Assault and the “Derby Race” mode from Monster Jam: Steel Titans. However, unlike those modes, players will have a 50/50 chance of starting the race in either direction. The overall objective of Race remains the same here.
- Track Attack - Time trial-styled event featuring only the player’s truck with the objective of achieving the best lap time.
- Point to Point - A traditional race event from point A to point B with the goal of finishing in first place.
- Trailblazer - Variation of Point to Point that serves as the game's equivalent of waypoint racing. Like Maximum Destruction events, Trailblazer events take place in an open world map and in this mode, the starting line, any checkpoints and the finish line are scattered throughout the map. Players are free to take any route they choose as long as they reach the checkpoints, although they should keep in mind that the field of opponents will do the same. The objective of Point to Point remains the same here.
- More events to be added here.
Locations[]
Across both tours, the game features a total of ? locations that are featured in events; all of which are based on their respective real world counterparts. While locations in the Stadium Tour are not destructible, locations in the Metalstorm Tour are destructible in nature. It's also worth noting that locations in the Metalstorm Tour feature several varying track layouts.

Trivia[]
- The second game in LoganC22's three-game five year anniversary celebration block on Fandom.
- In a notable first, the game is the first Monster Jam title of its kind on Game Ideas Wiki in its fifteen-plus year history.
- The first Monster Jam title in twenty three years to be rated "T", after 2002's Monster Jam: Maximum Destruction.
- It is also only the second title ever in the series to be rated "T", with the other also being Maximum Destruction.
- In a sheer coincidence, the game's subtitle is the same name as a cancelled Idea that was originally going to be made by LoganC22. According to him, a game called Metalstorm was intended to be released in 2022 as a vehicular combat racing title, but it ended up becoming repurposed as Turfstorm, with its original vision ultimately becoming realized in 2023's Victory, Inc.
- The second Idea developed by Catch 22 to involve a sports-oriented property, after 2022's Turfstorm focused on American football.
- The game's logo screens can be found in the video here, with it being created by LoganC22 using Canva.
- In the above video, the quote displayed at the end was said by Dennis Anderson, creator and former driver of the Grave Digger monster truck and member of the inaugural class of 2020 for the Monster Jam Hall of Fame. Although not stated in the video, LoganC22 confirmed the quote was said in 1998.
- In the menus, if the soundtrack is turned off, sounds of monster truck engines revving and crowd noise will play after ten seconds of silence.
- Similar to their real life counterparts, the following trucks have features that can be activated. All activations can be done by pressing the left analog stick (LS) and regardless of which livery is chosen:
