Miraculous: Dark Knight in Paris is an open-world action game that is also a crossover between Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir and Batman, with gameplay inspired by the Batman Arkham series.
Premise[]
Several of Batman’s rogues gallery have fled Gotham City and have set up operations in Paris and Batman has to track them down and take them back to Gotham before they can cause any serious damage to the city. At the same time, Batman’s presence has managed to cause a stir in Paris. Not wanting Batman to become an interference, Hawkmoth reakumatizes his previous victims with the added motive to kill Batman. Now Batman teams up with Ladybug and Cat Noir to stop both Batman’s rogues and Hawkmoth’s akumas and restore order to Paris. Meanwhile, a greater conspiracy lurks behind the scenes.
Gameplay[]
Players control Batman, Ladybug, and Cat Noir whom they can switch between at any time as they explore a fully open Paris. All three characters control very differently. Batman still uses his grapple gun and gliding to traverse, Ladybug uses her yo-yo to swing around, and Cat Noir uses his catlike agility and can climb onto surfaces. Some puzzles have players switching between the three characters to get past obstacles.
Certain elements from the Arkham games are present such as the freeflow combat system and predator sequences.
The freeflow combat has you building a combo multiplier by stringing attacks and executing counters. However, attacks consist of a light attack and heavy attack which can be strung together into combo attacks, along with grabbing enemies to either pummel them or dragging them to different objects for environmental takedowns. Once the player achieves a certain number of combos, they can execute a combo move.
These encounters would later become more challenging when introducing large brutes, martial artists, enemies in body armor, carrying shields, stun batons, and enemies brandishing sharp bladed weapons such as knives which require different methods to take down for the combat, and enemies carrying thermal goggles, jammers, mines, and snipers for the predator sequences.
Investigating crime scenes has Batman using his Detective Vision to scan for evidence and replaying the scene of the crime. Another part of solving investigations involves questioning suspects and witnesses to the crime. Players must link the found evidence to the person in question and judge based on their reactions and expressions if they are telling the truth, if they’re lying, or cast their statement in doubt.
There are also side encounters and collectibles scattered about such as tackling random crimes throughout the city, solving a string of thefts, finding missing victims, and taking on Gamer’s challenges. Collectible locations can be found by finding Lady Wi-Fi’s informants scattered throughout the world which only Batman can interrogate.
Defeating enemies and completing objectives earn you XP which can be spent on skills such as combat and gadget upgrades, new moves for each character, and armor which is carried across all characters. Completing side missions also earn tokens which can be spent to unlock suits and mods which can be equipped for either character. Differents mods have different perks such as a larger window for counters or take less damage from melee or ranged attacks.
Boss fights have you taking on an akuma or one of Batman’s rogues, and defeating them earns each of the protagonists a new gadget.
