Galerians (20XX) is a reimagining and soft reboot of the Galerians franchise, from Polygon Magic and Korean Japanese artist and music director Chinfa Kang.
Story[]
The year is 23XX. Earth has suffered major global wars known as the Third World Wars, severe enough to decimate major cities and reduce the human population around the world by 80%. Despite the mass destruction of future human civilization, few but crucial surviving cities throughout Earth managed to have avoided nuclear devastation and the battles of these global wars. Nature also is largely untouched due to man's war focused only on major population centers, with towns and establishments abandoned by war and refuge and left to its domain.
The year is now 2522. Michelangelo City, is an isolated forested major city centered in what used to be the former United States of America. Built to host humanity's knowledge and culture in a planned massive library database to preserve for future generations, Michelangelo City was instead turned to as one of the last refuges of human civilization on the Western Hemisphere.
Into the present day, Michelangelo City is now a city nation state, its own lone power into an age where the great powers of the world have collapsed. With a population of around 18,000,000, Michelangelo City has institutionalized rigid and orderly ways of living to its inhabitants "to ensure the mistakes of the past are never repeated again." The people of Michelangelo City live akin to the late 20th Century, considered the "last era when humanity openly explored their world".
Most forms of entertainment are banned, with some strictly regulated to ensure the "education of the young". Recreation and holidays are rarely observed, to "ensure the productivity of the people to restore humanity back to its former glory". Telecommunications and computer technologies are highly regulated to be only used by government officials and higher powers, to "ensure conservation of resources for higher efforts". These ordinances against leisure and creative outlet has instead backfired, creating a large rift of countercultures as well as rebelling groups of individuals who do not fit into Michelangelo City's "vision of progress for the future".
Moreover, "different" ways of life and proposals of new civil planning for community cohesion are demanded to undergo strict review by cultural and society officials, to ensure their implementation will not "disrupt the peace". These efforts ran through stifling bureaucracy to help alleviate the people's tensions have also soured the public against the city government over time.
Most adults of the city are employed as civil servants to city corporations to ensure the maintenance of Michelangelo City's civil infrastructure and systems. Surprisingly, there is a growing campaign to recruit young and able men to the Michelangelo City Military and Police Force.
To help automate Michelangelo City's functions to ease the civil workload, enforce the law on a greater and coordinated scale, as well as to bolster research and development on the government's agenda, the supercomputer, Dorothy, is created to help the vision of the city's future come to life. A newly developed computer allowed access to utilize strictly prohibited technologies like biotechnology and microcomputers, Dorothy utilizes "organic circuits", where her cells are a combination of processor, motherboard, and memory unit, instead replicating using organic flesh and bone like components. Dorothy's real identity is kept a mystery to the public, where city officials keep news media under heavy monitoring to ensure control of information over the public. Dorothy nevertheless is touted as the keystone of Michelangelo City's future, her creation being kept in Mushroom Tower, the center for all of Michelangelo City's computer networking and civil infrastructure monitoring. To ensure her own well being and existence, ordinances on electricity and power usage are enforced heavily on the public.
With the world outside of Michelangelo City's limits unknown to most over 200 years past since the Third World Wars, a secret project is announced by Dorothy. She wishes to create subservient beings to Michelangelo City's government able to explore the unknown world outside, while with abilities and powers unique to them to allow their survival in environments and situations harsher for normal human beings no matter how trained. Dorothy deems these empowered yet subservient beings Galerians. Intrigued, the government officials of Michelangelo City take great interest in Dorothy's idea. With no limits of their own upon them, they allow her permission to undertake her project for their esteem in their vision of the future.
Little do they know, Michelangelo City's tensions will spill over like a dam onto the valley below..... And Dorothy has plans of her own.
In a hospital, a section confidential, unknown to the rest of Michelangelo City.
A teenage boy, the age of 14, lies strapped to a medical table. His vision opening to the world around him, bright white greets his eyes, as the lights of the operation room help to give form to his surroundings.
He does not know who he is, nor does he remember.
Trying to make sense of his situation, suddenly, the voice of a young girl echoes in his mind.
No one is there, but it tries to reach out to him. Continuing her pleas, she wishes for the boy to save her. That they are coming for her.
Two large vials, one a lively but deadly green, and the other a bright yet devilish fiery red, are injected into the boy's neck.
A power within him is awoken by this chemical reaction.
"Release me. I want to be free."
Gameplay[]
The gameplay of the Galerians reimagining is instead made to be like a mix of Resident Evil 4 and 5 with Megaman Legends.
Short[]
Shorting works like in the original Galerians, where if the Absorption/Aggression Points meter reaches maximum and Rion tries to use an attack, Rion will enter Shorting, where his brain will overload by "short circuiting" from excessive PPEC buildup and causes his psychic powers to go out of control. Shorting in the reimagining differs in that its effects are dependent on what drug he is using. If Rion reaches a short, he cannot change the powers he is using until his shorting is stopped.
Dual Power[]
The Dual Power system allows for Rion to utilize another psychic power when he is actively using one. This allows Rion to utilize two powers at once, create unique effects with the combined powers, and allowing for new attacks and circumventing abilities in case he has run out of other powers. As a cost, the use of Dual Power increases AP accumulation, making use of Dual Power to be discretionary and to be careful when to use it.
Psychic Power Enhancement Chemicals[]
- Nalcon: Allows Rion to release kinetic energy in the form of barriers of force. Nalcon is the most basic but most versatile psychic power. Nalcon is not a projectile attack, instead acts by hit scanning, manifesting instantaneously forceful walls of psychokinetic energy near enemies that ram into them when they are in its range of effect. Charging up Nalcon is a lot longer than the original game, but a full charge ensures a Nalcon field that knocks down enemies and cancels an attack from them. If Nalcon is used on an enemy near a wall or obstacle, damage of the attack is severely increased. Skip increases Nalcon's charge rate, damage, and gives knockback force for upgraded attacks. If Rion is shorting on Nalcon, Rion will manifest a large spherical barrier that will disintegrate anything that comes in contact with it, but disables attacking and running. Nalcon can be identified as a green vial.
- Red: Allows Rion to weaken and damage enemies by causing their molecules to excite with pyrokinesis, sending out an invisible wave of effect in front of him. If Red's effect is greater than the enemy's remaining health, their clothes and fat will catch fire and their bodies will liquefy. Robots and metallic enemies no longer are immune to Red, but they are much more resistant than organic enemies. Skip increases the damage and melting weakening effect of Red. If Rion is shorting on Red, organic enemies will explode into a mess of cooked steaming flesh and fire, while cyborg enemies will melt down as their bodies explode from the inside, while Rion will overheat himself, draining his health quicker than any other Short. Red can be identified as a red vial.
- D-Felon: Allows Rion to telekinetically lift a number of enemies or objects, suspending them in midair with an isolation effect force field. D-Felon in action causes a seized enemy to take damage over time and stop attacking as they are given massive headaches, paralyzing them. The suspended object is free for Rion to do as he wishes. Rion can attack by slamming them into surfaces, objects, obstacles, or even into other enemies. A seized enemy can also be used as a shield from enemy attacks. Objects are interacted with uniquely, being individually "stocked". Skip increases the crowds of seized enemies and objects Rion can hold in place with D-Felon's power. If Rion is shorting on D-Felon, the force fields of D-Felon randomly rip apart and section out objects and enemies, before violently tossing them around unpredictably to their death. D-Felon shorts deactivate friendly fire and their ordinance can hurt Rion. D-Felon can be identified as a blue vial.
- Breakeron: Allows Rion to generate a field of static ionized electricity around him, allowing him to attack with electricity and momentarily paralyze any enemies near him, and erases incoming bullets and lasers when they enter the field. When Breakeron is used, the ionized static field will remain in a passive state but momentary state, and each time Breakeron is used, the static field grows in power by the increase in charged ionic activity. At full charge, Breakeron can generate powerful bolts of lightning that can attack everything in the room, making it useful for crowds and cornered scenarios. Skip increases Breakeron's charge time, power, and lessens the charge stock needed to increase Breakeron's ion field to maximum level. If Rion is shorting on Breakeron, Rion cannot attack. If Rion is attacked when he is Breakeron shorting, the enemy who attacked him will be dealt an instant killing electrocution, but damage is doubled to Rion. Breakeron can be identified as a purple vial.
- A-Zero: Allows Rion to create a circular zone on the ground where molecular activity is slowed down, giving him cryokinesis. Enemies within this zone are attacked with the freezing effect, as well as hampering their mobility and speed. If A-Zero's effects are consistent, enemies with low health will instantly freeze in place. If an enemy's health is lower than the attack value of A-Zero, they will die as they are flash frozen from the molecular cessation. Mechanical and robotic enemies, like Red, are resistant to A-Zero, but will slow down greater if they are exposed to its effects, yet will succumb to its instant death effect a lot later. Rion can aim A-Zero's attack trajectory but cannot aim or activate an attack with him in the vicinity of A-Zero's range of effect. Skip expands A-Zero's range of effect by diameter and height and its damage and freezing effects. If Rion is shorting on A-Zero, the entire room will freeze over, instantly killing foes by the instantaneous moisture evaporation, but Rion will begin to freeze and slow down if he is not moving. If Rion stops moving for a certain period of time and is not administered Delemetor in time, he dies from freezing and the game is over. A-Zero can be identified as a cyan vial.
- Platon: Allows Rion to enhance and weaponize his psychometry Scanning ability by allowing him the ability to manipulate and decipher electromagnetic frequencies by metallic element electron kinesis. Platon's effect is a wide radius burst that is weak but causes enemies to be stunned by intense psychic headaches, and deals extra damage to cyborg and robotic foes. If Platon is frequently used if enemies are suffering its effect, Platon deals more damage, before defeat ensures the target's brains will explode out of their head. Skip increases Platon's range vastly, while increasing its initial damage slightly and its stunning and conditional damage effects greatly. If Rion is shorting on Platon, his Short will be the "classic Short" from the original game, where any enemies near him will have their brain explode within his vicinity. Rion can scan to turn the space infront of him into a hitscan to weaponize his Short and can run, but both actions increase the health drain of Short rapidly when used. Platon can be identified as a yellow vial.
- B-Synth: Allows Rion to regenerate his wounds and injuries by psychically displacing his pain and damage onto nearby enemies with the ability to harmonize with his subconscious bodily function and emotional psychological placebo effects combined with the power of biokinesis. Rion will lock onto nearby foes when charging up B-Synth and upon activation, Rion will send out homing shots of negative energy that will heal him when they hit their targets. Moreover, whatever damage and ailments he is suffering from are transferred from him to the targets, healing him. If there are plants nearby, he can heal from them indefinitely. Skip increases B-Synth's target capacity and increases its health recovery, damage, effects, and amplifies the ailment affliction. If Rion is shorting on B-Synth, B-Synth's effects are "reversed" as Rion will periodically produce a field of B-Synth projectiles around him: if any enemy is in the field, they are instantly killed by B-Synth by healing them to death, but Rion loses health and gains whatever ailments the foes are suffering from. B-Synth can be identified as a pink vial.
- Fenreon: Allows Rion to accelerate the kinetic energy of gaseous and particularized matter, allowing him the ability to turn dust and air into explosive force. When charging, Rion can choose from four axis of aim: straight ahead, up from the ground, down from the air, and all around him. Straight ahead blasts air and dust forward, up from the ground creates a blast of wind into the air, down from the air creates a blast of air down to the ground, and all around creates a radius of force that blasts back any close enemies. Skip increases Fenreon's damage, range, and the ability to carry off heavier objects. If Rion is shorting on Fenreon, his AP drains instead of his health. If the AP gauge drops to zero, Rion will uncontrollably release a room destroying air blast that will inflict damage equivalent to 90% of his health and resets the AP gauge until a Delemetor is administered. Fenreon can be identified as a brown vial.
- Yin: Allows Rion the ability to harness infrared energy, allowing him to attack stealthily and destroy objects without drawing attention to himself. Yin is the most straightforward psychic ability in terms of attack, Rion sending out a beam like field of infrared energy at his intended target, but its nature as a projectile attack gives it flaws inherent to its manifestation compared to his more instantaneous and sudden effect based powers, meaning it can be reflected, defended against, and dodged. Skip increases Yin's attack power, range of trajectory, and charge time. If Rion is shorting on Yin, he will still be able to attack, but his health will be depleted every attack he makes and will drain faster if he charges up an attack until at a single unit of health, making this a potentially silent killer. Yin can be identified as a black vial.
