Forza Across Horizon 2 is the sequel to Forza Across Horizon released exclusively to Xbox Series consoles, and like its predecessor features characters from various anime, western cartoon, webcomic, and video game franchises.
Summary[]
The annual Horizon Festival returns, this time taking place in the wilderness of Canada. Bringing in a wide variety of people from all over.
The game begins with various characters arriving in Canada for the festival before the player goes through a quick montage driving various vehicles including 2021 Ford Bronco, 2020 Chevrolet Corvette, and 2021 Subaru WRX STi, and finally the Aston Martin Valhalla to the Festival Mainstage.
Afterwards, players can create their character or import their character from the original Forza Across Horizon. They soon meet their best friends, Casey and Horace. Soon, they are interrupted by the arrival of The Horizon Five, five of the Festival’s best drivers of each of the different disciplines including Road Racing, Off-Road, and Drifting. Players are then introduced to Horace’s uncle Custer who is a mechanic who introduces the player character’s starter car: Either a 1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex, 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, or 2011 Peugeot 308 GTi. After that, the player character is then given a wristband, as well as a Festival map and collector’s catalog. After that, the player is free to explore the festival, and earn enough reputation to take on and beat the Horizon Five.
Gameplay[]
Gameplay is identical to the previous game. Players freely explore an open world, entering events, earning credits and XP.
The Festival itself has five different disciplines: Horizon Apex for road racing, Horizon Dirt for dirt racing, Horizon Wilds for cross-country races, Horizon Rush for PR stunts (speed traps, speed zones, danger zones, etc.), and Horizon Street for street racing. Completing events for one discipline opens up more events for that discipline.
Race Types[]
- Race - Players race in a full grid to finish first
- Elimination - A clock counts down and if the timer reaches zero, the driver in last place is instantly eliminated. This continues until one driver remains
- Knockout - Players in a circuit and on each lap the driver in last place is instantly eliminated. This continues until one driver remains
- Drag - Players race one-on-one on a straight lane. However players have to shift gears manually and time them perfectly to win
- Drift - Players have to execute a series of drifts in order to score points. The bigger the drift, the more points earned
- Touge - A point-to-point race in two racers race to the finish line first or win by gaining a five second lead
- Team Race - Racers are divided into two teams with the win going to team with the most points based on the positions the racers’ finish in
- Drift Race - Players race against multiple opponents, however the goals to win by best two out of three rounds
Progression this time is from earning stars which are gained from completing events. Stars are needed to unlock special events such as showcase challenges as well as challenge each of the Horizon Five.
Earning enough XP increases your driver level which in turn earns the player a new car and discounts for buying cars and upgrades. Reaching a certain driver gifts the player a new wristband which lets them enter more advanced races.
Players also spend perk points earned from gaining skill points on passive perks for their character such as more points earned for specific skills or discounts for buying cars.
Obtaining cars, either through buying them through the autoshow, barn finds, or level rewards fills out the collector’s catalog. Collecting all the cars in the catalog from a certain manufacturer earns the player a reward.
The Festival Map shows all the different grand events such as expeditions and showcases which are unlocked by earning a certain number of stars. Players can also earn stars by completing activities such as speed traps and danger signs, as well as completing side-quests from characters. There are also different hidden collectibles scattered throughout the world such as signs to smash for discounts on fast travel or bonus credits and xp.
The side quests also return, allowing players to take on tasks by specific characters such as beating a character’s top speed at a speed trap, taking unique photos, or taking them to a destination. Completing them earns players credits, xp, and stars.
The Horizon hubs once again feature various shops and activities to participate in such as carnival games, arcade games, and watching live performances.
Characters are also seen driving throughout the open world and flashing your car's lights behind them challenges them to a makeshift race and beating them also earns credits and xp.
A returning feature from the mainline Horizon games is the changing weather system with the seasons changing every real world week, or when playing offline, players can choose the season from their home.
Cars[]
The car roster has been expanded for about up to 690 cars which includes most of the cars from the previous Forza Across Horizon.
