The player's relationships with the game's factions are distinct, so any two groups or settlements may view the player in contrasting ways, depending on the player's conduct. Reputation also affects how a faction will react to the player - a good reputation will make completing some quests easier, provide discounts with the faction, unlocking potential companions or settlement's vendors, and cause faction members to offer gifts, while a bad reputation may lead to the faction refusing to help the player, attacking them on sight, and even sending assassins to gun them down.
Background[]
A measurement of how the different factions in the Wasteland perceive the player character. It is affected by positive and negative deeds that affect the faction in question, such as completing quests or killing members, respectively.
Reputation is separated into two categories: Fame and Infamy. Fame is positive and Infamy is negative. Both types of reputation are tracked separately, the combination of which determines one's reputation with any given faction. The benefits and drawbacks of any given reputation depend on the group itself. The player character may receive discounts with merchants, provoke attacks from hired thugs, or simply be treated differently.
Points are accumulated by various means. Completing quests, helping people, and generally making oneself useful will result in accumulating positive reputation points. Negative reputation can be earned by things such as killing members of a group, being caught stealing, lying, being rude or treating people poorly, or completing quests for the opposite side.
Based off the system seen in The Outer Worlds, your Charisma will determine the kind of Reputation you can achieve with the factions. High Charisma will make it easier to become liked and harder to be hated, whereas low Charisma will make it harder to become liked and easier to be hated and also. To put it another way, low Charisma will make it so that you have to work harder in order to raise your reputation and you won't be able to get away with as much, whereas high Charisma will make it so that you can get away with a lot more and don't have to work nearly as hard to raise your reputation.
Killing faction members[]
Killing members of any faction from a [HIDDEN] state will not cause one to gain Infamy as long as the weapon is considered silent and the target dies with one attack, or if one uses Mister Sandman.
Negative reputation for all towns and factions[]
- Being caught stealing (-2 each).
- Killing people affiliated with a given faction or town openly (-10 each).
- Killing a important character (i.e Raiden Shogun or Caesar) within given faction (-100 each)
Fame and Infamy[]
Fame and Infamy are earned by doing helpful or harmful deeds, respectively, to the faction. The combined effects of the two scales result in an overall reputation that is either positive, neutral, or negative. In the table below, these are colored green, black, and red respectively.

They will attack on sight. Companions affilated with that faction will no longer join you and attack on sight. Hit squads of their respective factions, hired mercenaries and thugs (for towns) spawns to attack you on sight in the game world. |
Faction Reputation[]
The main factions (Monstadt, Liyue, Sumeru, Inazuma, Fontaine, NCR, Minutemen, Railroad, Brotherhood of Steel, Desert Rangers, Legion, Patriarchs, Institute, The Board, Nuka-World Raiders) that have optional disguises which alter one's reputation among other factions.
With the exception of the certain factions, all factions will attack the player with a negative reputation.
Towns Reputation[]
A town's reputation determines the player character's treatment by the townsfolk. Unlike factions, they cannot alter a town's reputation with faction armor. Towns will never be permanently hostile to the player character; leaving the town for three days and returning should remove any hostility.
A positive reputation may yield positive dialogue, discounts from vendors, and even free gifts from wandering citizens. A negative reputation may result in negative attitudes by the citizens, higher prices when trading and mercenaries, vigilantes or hired thugs will be sent after you in the game world.
