Extreme Cross (戦おう!! 壮大交差狂乱! , Let's fight!! Grand Crossing Frenzy! in Japan) is a 2023 crossover fighting game developed by SNK, with The John Studios assisted in. It was released on September 25th worldwide for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC through Steam and Nintendo Switch. The game contains the biggest crossover in any fighting game ever, as it stars many characters from various franchises of various companies, such as Capcom, SNK, Rainbow spa., Disney, and many more.

Story[]

It is the present day, 2022 AD.

A special martial arts tournament has been planned by a mysterious organization, only named Gaia Corporation.

Fighters all over the world have been invited to join the event.

Many countries are right now focusing on the exhibition and hope who is going to be the champion team.

The ceremony have been opened, edorsed by many celebrities, influencers and Vtubers. The hype was intense than ever before in human history.

However, unbeknownst to them, a sinister shadow is lurking around somewhere in Japan's biggest tournament with only one name...

Umbra!

Gameplay[]

The gameplay retains the basics of what a King of Fighters game is. It is a three-team fight with Light and Heavy only buttons , Blowback and Roll Dodges. If one member is defeated, the next member will come in and this repeats it until all three are defeated. It also retains elelments that are found in The King of Fighters XIV and XV, such as Rush Combos, MAX mode and EX Specials, as well as Roman Cancel from Guilty Gear (done by pressing all four buttons) and Evade from KOF '94 (done with + ).

This game introduces two new mechanics, one is Sky Flight. By doing + , you will sent the opponent into the air and automatically jumps at them. Then the player must press a combination of button inputs to perform a 10-hit aerial combo while the background turns blue (Light) or red (Heavy), basically a fusion of Rage of the Dragon's Impact Combo and Rival Schools' Aerial Combos. It costs 1 bar to use.

The second mechanic is Shadow Assist, which summons a shadowly version of one your team members to attack your opponent. It may be weak, but it allows the shadow to stun them for along period of time for one use, allowing the summoner to perform a quick combo. Like Sky Flight, it costs 1 bar and can be done by clicking the L3 joystick on the PlayStation or move the right joystick on the Switch and XBox.

Characters[]

The main roster of characters are 50, with 2 of them being unlockable bosses. Each 3 characters are split into one canonical team, but you can edit your own team regardless. Once you beat Arcade Mode with the correct team, you'll get their ending, as well as a picture based on the canonical team you selected. It's been confirmed that there will be only 3 seasons of DLC, which will double the roster size to 68 (72 if count the Alternate Fighters).

To unlock this fight, you have to deliver an Ultra Desperation Move to the last member of the team and gain 2 perfects in a single match during Arcade Mode. Once you done it, the hidden final boss will take Akuma's place, but you cannot play as him in Online Mode.

Much like old KOF games, some of the characters have alternate variants of themselves with different movesets called EX fighters. It can be used by highlighting one on the character select screen and press Light Punch, Light Kick and Heavy Punch together to make it appear.

Suzaku Castle, Japan	Team World Warrior	A Fedual-aged castle where Ryu used it as a dojo for training. The fight takes place on the rooftops with breakable sign that says Fūrinkazan, a shorten version of a quote from Sun Tzu's Art of War. Gouken can be seen from a mile away, watching the battle on fold. NOTE: If you have Akuma on your team, the sky will be covered in dark clouds as lightning bolts randomly struck in the background. Gouken is not seen in this variant.
Omnia Academy	Team Splat Squad & Team Crusaders	A large college located somewhere in the fictional city of Belmont, USA. The fight takes place on a stadium filled with soccer balls and rugby balls. Many students and teachers are seen cheering at the fighters while on their benches. NOTE: If you play the stage normally, Meggy will appear as a coach in the background, using her Whistle when the round is over. If Meggy is chosen however, she will be replaced by a generic coach instead.
Green Hill Zone	Team Sonic	Sonic's classic stage since his first game. Located somewhere on Christmas Island, the background has homages to the Sonic series, such as Buzz Bombers occasionally flying, a checkpoint lamppost will suddenly pop up at random, which they start spinning in red when the opponent is knocked (though there just for decorations), a 1-Up monitor, and a huge shuttle loop where characters such as Silver, Big, Tangle and Whisper are seen running along it.
Tokyo, Japan	Team Robots & Team Sakura	Takes place on the famous Shibuya district of Tokyo, with multiple people holding flags of Team Robots, including MOMO, Tommy and Professor Moshimo. Additionally in the final round, the stage takes place on night, no people to be found, and instead, Dr. Kamikazi and his henchmen Constantine take their place after arriving on their helicopter.
Portorosso, Italy	Team Fatal Fury	A small italian town located near Corniglia, Italy. The fight takes place on the beach, with multiple boats hanging around in the background, umbrella suns with sunchairs around the stage and the italian houses with a Vespa seen on the left. Multiple characters from the Pixar film, Luca, as well as Fatal Fury can be seen either cheering or relaxing. Duck King Luca Alberto Giulia Marco Tung Fu Rue Jubei Yamada Hon-Fu
Alfea	Team Magical Girls	A large boarding school for fairies, located in Magix via a magical portal. The fight takes place at the Central Courtyard of the school, with benches around the field. Unique for a stage is that it changes location per round via teleportation done by the Pixies. The first round is ovbiously the Central Courtyard, the second is the hallway, where Knut is seen cleaning the floor, the third is the Potions Laboratory, the fourth is the Magic Archive, the fifth is the Greenhouse, and the final round is the Headmistress's Office. Each location has different people cheering on, or just minding their business: Central Courtyard: Multiple students, including Marco, Takashimizu Rina, Krystal and Randy Cunningham Hallway: Knut Potions Laboratory: Wizgiz and Palladium Magic Archive: Concorda Greenhouse: Tom Lucitor and Buff Frog carrying the imprisoned Kalshara in her mouse form inside a cage The Headmistress's Office: Faragoda and Griselda
Amusement Park	Team Another World & Team Midnight	An amusement park probably located in South Korea. In the background, there is a ferris wheel, a viking boat and a rollercoaster, with many people (including a bodysuited dragon mascot) either cheering or walking pass by, as well as large balloons of Doremi Harukaze, Rex from We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story and Spider-Man hanging around. It turns at night for the final round.
Battle Zone	Team Mutant & Team Bosses	Some kind of snowy battlefield in Canada, where they are multiple destroyed vehicles, soldiers fighting against the evil mutants such as Juggernaut and Toad, and multiple helicopters in the sky. On the last round, a bunch of Sentinels will replace the evil mutants and starts destroying everything with punches and laser beams.
Wasted Desert	Team Weaponry & Team Big Three	The famous Sahara desert in the African continent, close to M'zab, Algeria in the northen path. There is a large airplane in the background, which the Engineer is apparently relaxing while playing his guitar instead of fixing the part. As the fight takes place above some rock formations, there is a large pool of water in the background drank by some thirsty camels, presumably belonging to the team. It turns at night for the final round, changing the scenery of camels sleeping in a campfire and Engineer sleeping as well with a newspaper on his face.
The King's Castle	Team YTP	King Harkinian's castle, located 4 feet away to where the giant vines lives. Many iconic YTP characters such as CD-I Zelda, Gay Luigi (who appears hanging on the vine while carrying a Baby Yoshi), Michael Rosen and CD-I Link (with an Octorok on his shoulder) appears to cheer on. Weegee also makes a 3 frame cameo appearance as well. On the final round, the Death Bob (led by Ronald McDonald) comes in fighting against Gwonam and his birds, but people don't notice this, as if nothing happens behind their back.
Luna Nova Academy	Team High School Girls	A magical academy for the witches to study, located at St. Michael Alignment in West England. The fight takes place outside of The New Moon Tower, where the magical creatures such as goblins and trolls work. At the final round, alot of students of the Luna Nova (including Diana, Amanda and Contanze), as well as Death the Kid, Blossom and Bubbles (and a worried Ursula if you brought Akko) will appear to cheer up with flags and firing magical fireworks in the sky during nighttime.
Pao Pao Cafe	Team Women Fighters	The famous bar and night club owned by Richard Meyer in Southtown, USA. Alot of musicians play their traditional Brazilian instruments in the background, as well many, many ladies that cameos in this stage to cheer on. These are: B. Jenet Squigly and Hsien-Ko, who are fighting each other over a burrito. Bulma Hotaru Futaba Ann Takamaki Mad Moxxie Kat from Gravity Rush Haru from Beastars Xiaoyu Will Vandom and Ami and Yumi from Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi Additionaly, Richard himself appears offering some drink to Sam and Max, while on the left, we have Homer playing Spider with Kronk and Bender. Bob Wilson (Richard's student) appears next to Homer. If you brought Zero into the match, then Iris will appear cheering on him. She will negatively react when Zero gets hit, or a posetive one when Zero either lands a hit or wins.
Ancient Fortress	Team Fantasy & Team Nemesis	The Bodiam Castle in East Sussex, England. The fight takes place at the interior of the castle, which was runied due to the passage of time, like two broken windows and destroyed top defences. There's no people around to cheer except for a old man and his Border Collie, who they just watch the fight.
Paris, France	Team Young Heroes	The fight takes place at the the top of the Eiffel Tower, with the city itself being seen through panorama. Several helicopters fly by as the cameramen record the fight.
Amazon Rainforest, Brazil	Team Agent	The Amazon Rainforest. The fight takes place on a platform carried by the gunship Hi-Do of the Regular Army, as it flies around the jungle, showing the river and a waterfall as well. A parrot stays here to watch match until the last round, where the forest becomes covered in fog.
Scrapyard	Team Rivals	Despite being called that, it is actually the Springfield Tire Yard, which hold burning tires. A worker will sometimes throw one of these tires with a bulldozer. At the final round (where it went night), Cletus stops by to watch the fight while sitting in his old armchair.
Ancient Temple	Ingrid	A large, abandoned ruined temple probably located in Greece, with vines and vegetation covering the entire place. A big light covering the throne can be seen in the background. It serves as the Boss Stage for Ingrid.
Japan National Stadium	Final Match (Arcade Mode only), Umbra, Akuma and Shadow Akuma	The biggest tournament of all of Japan and is where both team confront each other in the finals to see who will get the championship trophy first. A large crowd watches the fight from both grandstands while the flying drones records the footage. In the background, a large jumbotron displays it for the crowd to see. It serves as both the Sub-Boss and the Final Boss stage for Umbra and Akuma. If you fought the former, the sky will be covered by dark clouds, while the latter has the clouds raining and shooting thunderbolts in the background. If Shadow Akuma is fought however, the clouds will turn red to signify his presence.
Training Stage	Random	A sparse area used for training. The tiles of both the floor and the back wall are colored in dark blue with azure outlines. It is very similar to the one seen in Capcom vs. SNK 2.
