if this fan game is real, THIS IS A NON-PROFIT BUBSY FAN GAME (AND IS STILL IS NON-PROFIT), IF YOU PAID ANY MONEY JUST TO GET THIS GAME, YOU ARE LIKELY SCAMMED.

Bubsy Journey is a Bubsy fangame that has an original story and has the gameplay of Bubsy 1/2, albeit way more managable and less frustrating with some original mechanics thrown in, three seasons (and a potential fourth) are planned for Bubsy Journey, Bubsy Journey recieved a 2029 sequel released for the Factor Quantum

  • Season 0A: Woolies On Strike, a fix-fic retelling of Bubsy: Claws Encounter Of A Furred Kind (and a little of The Woolies Strike Back) hat applies all of Bubsy Journey's gameplay elements, instead of the Woolies being actually evil, they are poor liitle creatures who got abused alot, especially by ones from Hill Stream Blues, causing them to let out a revolution, especially Poly and Esther (also abused Woolies), who became queens for coming up with the idea of the revolution.
  • Season 0B: The Rise of The Pigs, another fix-fic retelling, this time the story of Bubsy II, the flashback begins with a young Oinker P. Hamm, who is a business man and, at a time, a humble, good-hearted and upbeat pig, until he found out an effective but corrupting way to make even quicker bucks, Oinker was initially nervous to this, but greed and curiosity got the best of him, Oinker received money faster and faster as his morality gradually declined, until his money reached has it's peak generation and him fully becoming a heartless, greedy, selfish and power-hungry hog he is today, he hid this from every unsuspecting collegue and employee of him, including Oblivia and Virgil.
  • Season 0C, Filler Arc (you can skip this, or maybe not): Bizzare Tales, a fix-fic of Bubsy In Fractured Furry Tales, which has Bubsy, after dealing with Oinker' shtick, revisit a library that he used to frequently visit as a kitten, and growing up..., he went there and see that the library is now declining in customers as more inhabitants in Hill Stream Blues get better internet access and some free distribution through online services (not all are free though), Bubsy and Xinny go to the library on it's final day in operation, seeing the Fairy Tales and Comic Books they used to all read as kittens, little did they know, they're gonna get sucked into those books, in the end, it had been revealed that the both had feel asleep and it's all just a dream, Bubsy had enough money to buy all the books they're nostalgic with, and they leave with the paid books, Bubsy turns one last time to the library, saddened to see it close for the last time, until either it gets abandoned or demolished into either a vacant spot, or to make way for a new establishment.
  • Season 1: The Adventure to Save Hill Stream Blues!, you are here.
  • Season 2: ???????

Premise[]

    • Unfortunately Mimi can't goomba stomp, taking normal collision damage if she tries to.

Trivia[]

Awakened Bobcat inspiration

The inspiration to Bubsy's Super form, the "Awakened Bobcat"

  • Belle was thought of as an affectionate parody for BubsyUwU, Travis4205 actually asked PawkiUwU if he can use her kinsona for the fangame, she turned it down, keeping the friendly parody that is Belle.

Tropes[]

  • 1-Up: You can either find white crates with a red "!" and destroy them, or buy them at the shop that costs 500 yarn for one life (you can buy five lives at once for 2000 yarn).
  • Abusive Mom: Ally Cassandra treats her daughter like utter trash and gets very angry over a very minor mistake, as the said daughter says to Bubsy once she's freed.
  • Adaptational Badass
    • Bubsy himself is a memetic loser in his source material, but in here, not only he can tank actual hits, he can actually last underwater! (just watch out for his oxygen meter), Bubsy's moves are also better! (for example, he can Lag Cancel, and his pounce is now more of an air-dash, instead of jumping an arc.), he can ground pound, best of all, he now has an equivalent to Sonic's Spin Attack!, by running fast enough and holding down, Bubsy does a fast cartwheel.
    • Bubsy's weapon also got better (although it went from Ballzooka to a weak Nerf pistol), although at the cost of weaker damage, Bubsy can fire it while moving, and can charge it up for a more devastating blow.
  • Adaptational Seriousness: Bubsy, out of all people, majority of his pun-fueled goofyness is either thrown out of the window or toned down, he's not stoic and all, he just went down from an annoying buffonish bobcat, to a decently tolerable one he is in here, however, his cousin Belle, who is based on BubsyUWU, emulates most of the goofyness of classic Bubsy.
  • Air-Dash: Bubsy's Pounce move is changed from Deadly Lunge into this that can damage enemies, you can still perform the classic pounce behavior by pressing up and the pounce buttons at the same time.
  • Anti-Frustration Features:
    • You can skip your death animation by holding the start button.
    • Some measures in the Daring Wonders Mall are this.
      • If Bubsy is very near to the goal while getting chased by Master Click, Virgil is waiting, and Virgil will blast him away with a massive white flash from a camera.
      • If Bubsy is fighting a mini-boss while he's chased by Master Click, the latter's patience is reset by 30%, and is paused until Bubsy defeats the miniboss, the patience is still paused if it's more than 1% (although it doesn't reset to 30%)
      • Unlike An Ordinary Sonic ROM Hack, where Sonic can only go back to the real world when he's already in the dark world, Bubsy can still pull levers and reset Master Click's patience meter, as long as it has dropped below 50%, it doesn't have to change into a sinister mood (when the patience of Master Click has dropped below 25%)
    • There are five difficulty settings. see Difficulty Levels below.
    • in the original Bubsy 1, if Bubsy falls of a slide, he can be doomed to fall damage, here, not only fall damage is nerfed to be survivable to him, but he can also cancel the falling/sliding animation when he's mid-air by pressing up, which not only resets his vertical velocity, but it also gives him another opportunity to glide.
  • Awesome But Impractical: The Grappling Gun is very fun to mingle with, and can be used to grab unto ledges and poles that are normally not reachable (as well as some optional swinging here and there), but this comes with the side effect of leaving Bubsy open as the ascension/descension speed when Bubsy is on the grappling gun being little slow, but it can be useful when used on the right sections.
  • Beta Outfit: Bubsy's usual "!" shirt and scarf is this, once you beat Ally Cassandra, you will free Ally's Daughter, Jackie, and, as a a token of her gratitude, she made him a new outfit, which consists of a red-white tracksuit, you can switch back to Bubsy's old outfit if you wish.
  • Big Bad: Grey, who threatens to zap Hill Steam Blues out of existence and seeking world dominance, Grey also mixes this with The Big Bad Wolf.
  • Call-Back:
    • There exists a shield power-up that changes Bubsy's shirt color, it's based on the Black T-Shirt power up from The Woolies Strike Back.
    • There is a "1993 mode" that turns Bubsy into a one hit point wonder, instantly die from fall damage (which is justified because he dies in one hit)
    • One of the death animations, more specifically when you run into an enemy, is Bubsy stopping to look/face nervously unto the camera, and fall on his back, guess which Bubsy game this death animation appeared previously?
    • One of the upgrades is El Gato Zapatos from Paws On Fire.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: Jomar and Kenic are two examples, also the result as a "Take That!" because the creator of the game once saw a Bubsy hate art (more specifically the Super Smash Bros. art) with Mario and Sonic, which the latter two are on the sending end.
    • Jomar is this to Mario, Jomar is stoic, pessimistic, and does not care for anything and just wants to take Bubsy's life out, just because he's a Grade A Heartless Jerk, this is in contrast to Mario, who's kind, cheerful, courageous, and headstrong.
    • Kenic is this to Sonic, Kenic just wants to be a dick without a care of the world, he's basically if Clown Man from Mega Man 8 was a copy of Sonic.
  • Difficulty Levels: Not much to say but there are five settings that qualify.
    • Injury: Easy (Halves the damage Bubsy recieves) Normal (Default, just as it is) Hard (Double Damage, dying in fewer hits.) and Bubsy/Felix (changes depending on character) Bubsy Must Die/Xinny Max Loss/Felix Will Fail/Mimi Death Ojama (Triple Damage, most of the harsher injuries can become a one-hit kill, Bubsy can only lose anything less than four health units if the player is LUCKY to bump into something minor)
    • Collision Damage: Leave it off, and Bubsy will just be pushed back a bit, this option is enabled by default
    • Fall Damage: Modern (Bubsy takes fall damage depending on how far he fell) Alternate (Similar to Mario 64's fall damage) Bubsy 1/2 (Instant Death when falling from any unsafe height, also the only option if 1993 mode is in effect) Disabled (No Fall Damage, Bubsy can fall from any height and suffer nothing, as long as he doesn't fall to a lethal bottomless pit)
    • 1993 Mode: Turns Bubsy into a one-hit point wonder and Fall Damage is lethal, Disabled by default.
    • Timer: 59:99 (Default), 99:59, or disabled (choosing the later voids all of your Speed Bonus score until the the Timer is re-enabled by choosing the "Over by XX:XX option")
  • Damage Over Time: Bubsy gradually loses health in Cyro Mountains, depending on difficulty, how long it takes for Bubsy to lose health varies, if Bubsy drinks the Potion of Cold Resistance, Bubsy will take longer before he loses one hit point, Bubsy however, can't die to this cold, he's just eventually brought down to just one point of health.
    • Easy: Lose 1 point of health every 12 seconds (24 with Potion of Cold Resistance)
    • Normal: Lose 1 point of health every 8 seconds (16 with Potion of Cold Resistance)
    • Hard: Lose 1 point of health every 6 seconds (12 with Potion of Cold Resistance)
    • Bubsy Must Die: Lose 1 point every 4 seconds (8 with Potion of Cold Resistance)
  • Double Jump:
    • The El Gato Zapatos allows Bubsy to perform this.
    • Xinny replaces this with flapping his arms like Kirby, giving him small boosts, initially, he's limited to just six flaps, but he can upgrade it through gradual play.
    • Mimi can triple jump to compensate her lack of speed.
    • Felix averts this trope, but he can still glide, by turning his magic bag into an umbrella, to make up for it, Felix jumps higher the faster he jumps, like how Mario jumps higher when running faster.
  • Emergency Energy Tank: Pumpkin Pie may also combine this trope with Edible Ammonation.
  • Expressive Health Bar:
    • As an artifact from Bubsy II, Bubsy (his face next to the life counter) is in his usual health has him sport a cocky smirk, becoming slightly nervous after his health meter is down to below half, and sporting a very distressed and scared expression when it gets below a quarter.
    • Felix The Cat also has three expressions, going down from confident, to worried at half health, to exhausted on quarter health.
    • Xinny goes from Cocky, to grumpy, to hopeless
    • Mimi only has two expressions (and one bonus), they're actually from her Lapistoria portrait expressions (Low health will gets her sad and tired, getting a 1up will briefly make her wink with an open smile before going back to the previous state)
  • Expy:
    • The Mini-boss in Fun Bounce Land is a generic clown that resembles a clown named Kaufmo
    • Kenic and Jomar are parodies of Sonic The Hedgehog and Super Mario respectively, which also doubles as a Take That!
    • Diana Sunshine is basically Miss Delight with Baldi's personality.
    • Master Click is an (obvious if you're an SMG4 fan) copy of Mr. Puzzles, the Puzzlevision antagonist.
  • Fix Fic: Pretty much a Bubsy game that axes out most of the problems present of Bubsy: CEOTFK, Bubsy II and Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, Story-wise it's also good, with many of the annoying aspects of the entire Bubsy franchise being axed.
  • Goomba Stomp: Mimi averts this trope.
  • Heart Container: you can buy "Canned Life" at the shop, only six are available, each can increases your maximum health by one, if all cans are consumed, you can buy the "Dumbell of Resilliance" which increases your maximum health by two points, bringing up to a total of sixteen health points (you have an initial health meter of eight).
  • In Memoriam: the credit scenes ends with a memoriam and tribute to Michael Berlyn, the creator of Bubsy., the very first thing that also pops up is a tribute to Michael Berlyn.
  • Invincibility Power-Up: Literal Electrolytes (In case of Mimi, it's a Pop-Kun, which also serves as a speed power-up)
  • Lions and Tigers and Humans... Oh My!: We have Fred (who is an Expy of Freaky Noob Franklin) and Diana Sunshine (also an expy, a mix of Miss Delight and Usanuko), and Johnson.
  • Marathon Level: Daring Wonders Mall, to compensate for its rather crazy length (shortest time you can beat it is no less than 8 minutes, and that IS if you speedrun it., playing normally takes up even more time), but to make up for the length, there's only two normal chapters (as opposed to the usual three)
  • Multiple Endings: Depending if Bubsy got all the Bobcat statues that awakens his ancestor's blood heritage and how far he is from grey (if he did escape)
    • True End: If Bubsy defeats Grey with all eight bobcat statues in possession, the difference if Bubsy (as the "Awakened Bobcat") defeats Grey on the spot, Grey freezes on the spot, if Bubsy isn't still transformed when he defeats Grey, Grey will angrily shout "Do you think you can stop me?!?, i can still vaporize Hill Stream Blues!", Bubsy assumes "Is that so?, because my ancestors blood has finally awakened on me.", then Bubsy transforms into the awakened Bobcat, either way, Grey pulls a Dr. Wily on him, where Grey has changed (or so it seems, we're just going to wait for a continuation to see if this is the case.....)
      • Grey: I'm a changed wolf!, please don't hurt me!
    • Endings where Bubsy defeats Grey without being able to access the "Awakened Bobcat" state (in other words, haven't gotten all of the bobcat statues)
      • Bad Ending/Caught: Grey now has Bubsy as his slave, and, has all of the bobcat statues all to himself (if Bubsy has collected seven or less of these, if he has eight, it plays the true ending instead and cancels the chase)
      • Good Ending: There are two variants of the good ending, depending on how far Bubsy was from Grey when he escapes.
        • Bubsy cleanly escapes from Grey cleanly when the latter is self-destructing his own base.
        • Grey was so close in catching Bubsy.
  • Lag Cancel: Bubsy's pounce can be cancelled into either a glide, or a second jump, also, Anyone can also prematurely escape the state of spinning from slide by pressing "Up+Jump".
  • One-Hit Kill:
    • If you get caught by Master Click, he will pull a Shun Goku Satsu at you, wiping off your remaining health, no matter how much health your have, and your health upgrades doesn't matter either.
    • If you're really unlucky, landing into spikes are this, normally Bubsy will clench his ass and lose three points of health from his health meter, everyone else however, fortunately doesn't have to suffer this, atleast without some game-breaking glitch.
    • If Captain Obvious says "You will (do action)", he will attack you, but if you are far on the screen enough not to be in his reach, Bubsy can shout "WRONG!" (Glide+Down), which wipes out the rest of Captain Obvious' health, it's either easy to do, or it's almost possible depending if you're on widescreen or not.
  • One-Hit Point Wonder: While Bubsy Journey doesn't normally apply this trope (Unlike the first Bubsy), it kicks in when "1993 Mode" is in effect (or setting the Injury difficulty setting to "Instant Death"), 1993 mode disables the health bar, Bubsy is cooked when he sustains damage (unless he has a the Velvet Shirt power-up, in which case he's a two hit point wonder, surviving the first hit).
  • Oxygen Meter: Bubsy will initially drown instantly when in contact on water until he gets the Magic Oxygen, in which case, Bubsy is given a meter, if it gets empty, a large red bubble appears on top of him with a frantic tune starting, the bubble gradually shrinks as the music gets close to make you drown.
    • outside of the usual oxygen meter, Bubsy also have a "heat meter" in Eagle Deserts, if it fills completely, a number appears above Bubsy, counting down from 9, if the timer expires and Bubsy is still exposed under the sun, he bursts up in flames, one way to reduce it is to consume ice cream, while it still freezes you without the cold resistance potion, it resets your heat meter back to zero.
  • Poison Mushroom: There exists the shade, which limits your view to just a small radius in your character for 20 seconds, the ice cream also initially qualifies until you get the potion of cold resistance.
  • Secret Character: Felix the Cat and Mimi are playable, the former is unlockable by completing an optional level, the latter is unlockable by either naming your save "Nyami", or completing a secret level.
  • Shout-Out
    • the Velvet Shirt is named after the cake flavor "red velvet"
    • The "Nine Start" upgrade item is shaped after Felix The Cat's head, bonus points for the friendly fandoms being Felix The Cat and Bubsy fans getting along pretty well.
    • While Nyami does appear in this game in a cutscene while you unlock Mimi, getting the velvet shirt as Mimi will change her outfit uniform to Nyami's colors.
  • Single-Use Shield: the Velvet Shirt which inverts Bubsy's colors, making his shirt red with a white "!" in default palette (in his Awakened Bobcat state, his suit changes from White to Red, but it's a cosmetic and doesn't do anything since he's invincible in that form) Allows Bubsy to tank one hit without losing health, it's also pretty useful when 1993 mode since he dies in one hit without the velvet shirt when that option is in effect.
  • Super Drowning Skills: Surprisingly Averted (atleast with the Magic Oxygen upgrade), unlike other games featuring Bubsy.
  • Super Mode: the Awakened Bobcat, instead of currency, Bubsy has a Limit Break meter that can be canceled, if it's cancelled, Bubsy can wait 5 seconds before re-activating Awakened Bobcat (if the meter is filled more than half that is), Mimi and Felix also has counterparts for this, with Mimi having her Escale ego. and Felix going Super (well Felix IS the one who inspried Sonic after all)
  • Take That!: Kenic Da Porcupine just exists to make fun of Sonic The Hedgehog (the creator of the game only meant it just because of the Sonic Forces Bubsy joke), Jackson is also a bastardation of JonTron.
  • The Many Deaths Of You:
    • Standard 1: Bubsy faces the camera nervously, falls on his back, which is a call back from the first two Bubsy games.
    • Standard 2: Bubsy spins around (and is sent flying a few meters up before falling off the screen (this is actually based on the death animation he has in The Woolies Strike Back)
    • Standard 3: Bubsy just gets thrown to offscreen.
    • Crushed: If Bubsy loses all of his health getting crushed, he doesn't spring back up.
    • Crushed (Alternate): Bubsy breaks into pieces.
    • Drowned: Bubsy screams underwater, and levitates for a bit, if he does re-emerge from the water before the screen fades, he jumps and screams in agony.
    • Caught By Master Click: Bubsy is on the clutch of Master Click, which, a few seconds later, the latter pulls a Shun Goku Satsu, which wipes off all his remaining health.
    • Spikes (Random Instant Death chance) - Bubsy pops like a balloon.
    • Spikes (Normal death) - Bubsy gets impaled and flattened, jumping out looking like a slice of cheese.
    • Sunburn - He bursts up in flames, Sunset Riders-style.
    • Felix the Cat has two, normal (based on his death animation from the NES Felix the Cat game by Hudson Soft), and caught by Master Click.
    • Mimi has five death animations.
  • Timed Mission: You can change the time, but the normal time limit is removed in the first two chapters of Daring Wonders Mall, where it's replaced by Master Click's patience meter.
  • Wall-Jump:
    • Bubsy gets this ability once he gets the El Gato Zapatos.
    • XInny can wall jump, Mega Man X-style
  • Zero-Effort Boss: Kenic (at least before his boss fights in Rayzor City Chapter 3) is a joke, as long as Bubsy even bothers to attack him, just don't try to shoot him with your Nerf pistol and you're good, he doesn't even give Bubsy collision damage! (unless he rolls that is)

YMMV[]

The Rise Of The Pigs[]

  • Moral Event Horizon: Oinker crosses the Moral Event Horizon after he punched the helpless Xinny in the gut, tortured him and threw him into the pit, fortunately, Bubsy reaches him just in time to save Xinny.

Main Game[]

  • Awesome Music
  • Breather Level: After Eagle Deserts induced a Difficulty Spike, which lasted until Super-Suburbs!, Fun Bounce Land, while it still has three chapters (plus one boss chapter), it was a big difficulty drop, although it's not as easy as Hill Stream Blues and Swashbuckle Town.
  • Hate Sink: Kenic, that disgrace of a creature is fueled with Gen Alpha humor and is very cringe, bonus points for being a Corrupt Character Copy to Sonic The Hedgehog, Jomar however, is somewhat interesting and likable.
  • Nintendo Hard: Not exactly Nintendo Hard, but compared to other Bubsy games, Bubsy Journey gives a great challenge without causing too much frustration (that is if you are a veteran who played the first two Bubsy games), this is in contrast to The Woolies Strike Back and Paws On Fire which were very easy, and Claws Encounted Of A Furred Kind, Bubsy II and Fractured Furry Tales which are actually Nintendo Hard games, on top of that, there are also settings that adjusts how much damage Bubsy receives.
  • Rescued From The Scrappy Heap: Compared to what Bubsy is usually portrayed as, he's way more tolerable here.
  • That One Boss:
    • Kenic in his mandatory battle on RAYZOR City Chapter 3, in stark contrast to his mini-boss battles in Hill Stream Blues Chapter 3/Lukewarm Springs/, where he dies in one-hit in the former two and doesn't do much to deal damage towards Bubsy, is a moderate pain in the ass AT BEST, because now not only he has a normal health bar, but he also has a second, Super Mode phase, which is a serious pain in the ass if you don't have great skills, even if your maximum health is maxed out (which is sixteen segments, out of the initial eight), it's even worse when you play as Mimi because she lacks the speed the others have.
    • Jackson is a serious pain in the ass.
  • That One Level: A less frustrating example of this trope thanks to Master Click's patient meter being rather lenient (as long as you don't slack off that is) and levers being plentiful, but the Daring Wonders Mall is a Marathon Level that has alot of things that you don't want to bump into (either suffering collision damage or at best, just get pushed back), wasting a bit of time, which you need to save time to avoid frequent changes in mood.
