BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Extend

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Extend is a standalone update to BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle 2.0, with the development led by Arc System Works and Studio Flare along with other video game developers and companies.

Changes[]

DLC characters from original release are unlockable characters:
- DLC characters who appears in Episode 1 are unlockable there
- DLC characters who appears in Episode 2 are unlockable each different chapters they are first introduced
- They are unlockable via different options:
  - Purchase them via DLC on original DLC page. If owning original version's Special Edition before it was announced, players will receive 50% Discount to purchase this game
  - Unlock via completing certain Episode parts or fight money
- Characters who debuted in Extend are unlockable via either completing certain Episode parts or fight money
Storyline of previous episodes prior to Episode 3 expanded
- BlazBlue's Co-Operative Ending remains the same as the Ending after Ragna choose to entrust the Keystone to Hazama. Even after Ragna not to trust him, Hazama reveals to have to been watching Co-Operative Battles from behind & pick the main Keystone (BlazBlue)
Resonance Blaze Activation:
- Portrait appearing upon activating it now resembles Heat Drive portrait from Melty Blood: Type sub-series
- Can now be cancelled from other moves (normals/specials/EX)
Reversal Actions becomes Super and Assist Cancellable
Air Throw included. Brand new to Under Night In-Birth, RWBY and Senran Kagura cast (re-including Homura, who was in Nitroplus Blasterz with Heart Aino and Artoria Pendragon)
Astral Skill:
- Pre-attack starter no longer uses respective series' portraits (such as BlazBlue Red Drive Crest; Persona Awakening; Under Night In-Birth Infinite Worth, Arcana Heart Critical Heart; Akatsuki EN-Eins EX and Final Special Attack, and Perfekte Finish and Melty Blood: Type sub-series' Arc Moves). Instead, the portrait based on Cross Rush version, albeit similar to Persona Awakening portraits)
- Accessible on Level 3
Universal:
- Standing pose animation for Persona, Under Night In-Birth, Arcana Heart, Akatsuki EN-Eins and Nasuverse now has animated eyes brief shut as BlazBlue, RWBY and Senran Kagura cast
- Tag-In: 2P
- Super Jump Dash: 5D. Depends on the characters, whether they are flight or not. Based on Homing and Aerial Rave, including Dragon Ball FighterZ Super Dash
  - If characters cannot fly will accompany Senran Kagura and Nasuverse characters on utilizing Aerial Rave. System is inspired by Master Roshi in Dragon Ball FighterZ
  - Characters who can fly will accompany Arcana Heart characters on utilize Homing

Plot[]

All stories now uses sprite-based like in Tsukihime main franchise's fighting game adaption series, Melty Blood.

Changes in Episode 1 and 2[]

Episode 1

Much like how Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend has respective retold first games (namely original Persona 4 Arena and BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger), all scenes merged into one canon route, with Co-Operative endings merged with Hazama Ending to canonically be followed by Episode 2
Aigis immediately accompanies Inaba Investigators, after helping Yu and Yosuke escape from Carmine-Prime and Gordeau the Harvester, then finding both Chie Satonaka, Kanji Tatsumi and Yukiko Amagi
Hazama manage to retrieve primary blue Keystone containing System XX's conscious undetected that leads to Episode 2

Episode 2

Asuka meet Saki Tsuzura at a beach from the former's world, where they pit against both Makoto Nanaya and Orie Ballardiae for a volleyball contest, with the former team won before goint to separate ways.
- Asuka would meet both Heart Aino, Celica A. Mercury and Minerva. Initially serve as their customer before going along with them.
- Saki would meet Yumi, who won with Teddie against Jin Kisaragi and Weiss Schnee in a racing contest. Saki can see Teddie's pervert thoughts, and even living him shock out of cold before she and Yumi left. Just as Teddie wakes up few seconds later, Jin and Weiss S. are still there and feels pity of Teddie.
After securing Linne from a stab a crate where she was being put inside after being poisoned by a food she ate from Noel Vermillion's bizarre cooking, Hyde and Seth unexpectedly meet a passing by Teddie at a fountain plaza, who immediately provide the equipment and foods to make a healthy curry rice for Linne to heal. Linne sit on a separate table, where both Seth and Teddie helps Hyde cooks curry rice on a far separate table. Though Linne is healing, with Teddie helps her chew the curry rice, Hyde somehow getting a bad feeling that a familiar danger comes to him. As Hyde suspected, both of him and Seth dodges an incoming slash by a perpetrator who revealed to be Nanase. Nanase immediately kicks Linne's curry, thinking both Hyde, Seth and Teddie attempt to use poison on her inside the curry they cook, due to Nanase is holding grudge towards Hyde, and accuses him for her current state as an In-Birth. As Hyde's honestly attempt to clear the misunderstanding that Nanase's transformation was her own fault when he was trying to save her from being bitten by a Void, but no avail, Seth threatens to kill her for falsely dare to put him in a same situation as Hyde with a killing intent. As Hyde and Teddie tried to calm a furious Seth, with Teddie suddenly goes on Nanase's side, believing he can talk her out in their steads, to Nanase's disgust while being shocked that Teddie can talk, System XX suddenly appears to announce battle between Hyde and Seth against Nanase and Teddie. Hyde and Seth won, while forgive Teddie for not holding grudge against him personally. Linne, who has just recovered from a poison begins to scold Nanase for acting childish because of her own selfish vendetta towards Hyde, while also telling Hyde to work out his communication on improving his interactions with female cast, in which Seth agrees. Yu, Chie and Yukiko, who somehow lost Yosuke found Teddie. Both presented In-Birth and Inaba Investigation Persona Users decides to go separate ways, with Hyde praying good luck for the Investigators to find a missing Yosuke.
In his first encounter with Akihiko Sanada and Mitsuru Kirijo, Akatsuki is now accompanied by EN-Eins. Apparently, it marks the first time both Akatsuki and EN-Eins met, albeit off-screen. Nevertheless, EN-Eins will go a separate way to investigate the surrounding areas based on seven universes selected by System XX, while Akatsuki accompanies Akihiko and Mitsuru.
Homura first arrive at a rooftop of Shinjuku, where she first meet Scharlachrot. There, they are being assign to pit against Carmine and Merkava, whom Naoto Kurogane and Celica fought. Suddenly, Scharlachrot's starting to laugh manically like when she was brainwashed by Drexler. As it turns out, after seeing Carmine and his manners, Scharlachrot goes Yandere mode and proclaiming Carmine to be her. Carmine brief do not know why she want him until he realize what will she going to do with him. As Homura and Scharlachrot won against Carmine and Merkava, both Homura and Merkava starting to become irritated and horrified on seeing love twist between Scharlachrot and Carmine, where Scharlachrot tries to bind Carmine with her chain, while Carmine is struggling to escape from her. As both Homura and Merkava left for reasons, Carmine calls them cowards for not stopping Scharlachrot's attempt rape on him, revealing that Carmine has inability to scream for a help whenever a dangerous threat like Scharlachrot endangering his lifehood.
While investigating the areas behind Cross Tag Stamp Collecting Contest, EN-Eins stops at a forest ruin similar to the gateway that led to Neu Tempera Orden's Antactica base, where team up with Sophie, whose code name is Weiss, and both revealing each other's military status. As they are being pit against Naoto Shirogane and Kokonoe, the both teams' surprises, the contest is about Disabling Bombs across the jungle dubbed "Bomb Squad". Thankfully, with EN-Eins' telekinesis to lift a bomb, at cost of his stamina temporarily, Sophie-Weiss slashes the bombs quickly before Naoto and Kokonoe's manage to get scores above them. As both Naoto S. and Kokonoe depart to separate ways, suddenly, a strongest cold presence familiar to EN-Eins also affects Sophie-Weiss, and EN-Eins realize that the presence is where Akatsuki, Akihiko and Mitsuru are. With no time to waist, EN-Eins and Sophie-Weiss must rush to Akatsuki, Akihiko and Mitsuru before a bigger threat comes to the three latter.
After escaping from Azrael, while securing Blitztank under control, Akihiko is revealed to be critically injured because of Azrael's strikes, until Mitsuru temporarily froze Azrael and escape alongside Akatsuki and Akihiko, and takes the tank which Akatsuki reverse engineered his system to be under his control. The trio lays down at an abandoned factory, where Akihiko can heal. However, as the strongest cold presence already at their locations, Akatsuki realize the threat's familiar presence, and is about to perform a surprise attack. Akatsuki manage to push both Mitsuru and Akihiko, at cost of being critically injured by a threat, revealing herself as Mycale (under her Perfecti form), accompanied by a hired kunoichi Miyabi. Mycale and Miyabi takes the tank back and seal it inside Miyabi's scroll at System XX's behest. Although Kirijo attempt to fight two villainesses alone, EN-Eins arrives to save Mitsuru from Mycale's attack, followed by the appearance of Sophie-Weiss, who calls out Mycale that EN-Eins is not alone. Despite Akatsuki's apology that he cannot secure the Blitztank, EN-Eins remind him that winning the contest to return to their respective worlds is their priorities, telling both Akatsuki, Akihiko and Mitsuru to escape, while EN-Eins and Sophie-Weiss hold off both Mycale and Miyabi, while trying to get Blitztank from their hands when they are off-guard. As both Miyabi and Mycale catches off-guard, EN-Eins and Sophie-Weiss manage to secure the tank and escapes, to Mycale's dismay.

Final Episode: Grand Finale[]

The previous episodes has been expanded with newer scenes. As for Episode 3/Final, it surrounds randomized Cross Tag Battle Royale under a surprise direction of Neco-Arc, who brought her home multiverse, the Nasuverse as the 8th and last participated multiverse. With Neco-Arc's technology, the battle are being broadcasted lives on eight selected multiverse, both scheduled day and night alike. Behind her sponsorship, Neco-Arc is planning a mischievous grand scheme that would doom eight known multiverse behind Hazama and System XX's back. The final round set in a regular stadium, and there will be "bonus round" for the champion.

Trivia[]

This game now fully credits English voice actors with some changes regarding of some characters' previous voice actors:
- Few voice actors has been recasted following the current situations that was lastly occurred in 2022, and since Rie Tanaka (a Japanese voice actress as Mitsuru Kirijo) took over Nine the Phantom's role following the character and Yuzuriha's indefinite hiatus from her voice acting, Ayumi Fujimura:
  - Kagura Mutsuki: Daisuke Namikawa (Same as Yu Narukami). Since the passing of his original Japanese voice actor Keiji Fujiwara in April 12, 2020.
  - Naoto Kurogane: Aleks Le. Since the passing of his original and one-time English voice actor Billy Kametz in June 9, 2022.
  - Taokaka: Anne Yatco. Since The Passing of her original English voice actor Philece Sampler in July 1, 2021.
  - Junpei Iori: Zeno Robinson. Currently the only English voice actor from Persona 3 Remake to reprise his role, due to controversy surrounding his original voice actor Vic Mignogna since 2018, despite being found innocent.
  - Yuzuriha: Hitomi Nabatame. In order to properly fill Yuzuriha's Japanese voice lines in the previous story mode.
  - Saki Tsuzura: Miyuri Shimabukuro. Before Yuzuriha (and Nine's) Japanese voice actress goes indefinite hiatus as of April 1, 2019, Saki's original Japanese voice actress Yumi Shimura retired in 2016 after the release of Nitroplus Blasterz: Infinite Duels (which featured characters from original Nitroplus IP, including third-party series which other Nitroplus and its workers being part of [such as from Nasuverse (prior to joining Melty Blood, Senran Kagura (being a home port publisher) and Arcana Heart (the said Nitroplus fighting game's developer)).

The reason why EN-Eins Perfektewelt was not included in original release's 2.0, because it was in fact a beta stage with incorrect story parts. With the update known as EN-Eins Perfektewelt Anastasis and its new characters' Battle Theme name, the second Subtle Style entry's reps are now qualified to appear in this game.

This is the very first game after Toshimichi Mori's departure from Arc System Works in 2022, though remains involve Mori, due to involvement of his co-founding video game developer company, NetEase's Studio Flare.

The character select series logo for each side now represents which in-series entry the characters debuted as playable fighters, much like Persona side. Under Night In-Birth and Arcana Heart's cases has their original cast represents an updated title that is used for first home console release, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late and Arcana Heart FULL!. RWBY now has "Volume" name below its logo for each of the cast's first appearances.

With the help from Koei Tecmo's advice, Subtle Style and Arc System Works opens a competition of the creation of Subtle Style games' English logo variants ahead of their recognized worldwide release dates, and one of them will be chosen to be in their localized games.

The sprites Arcana Heart (co-drawn by Team Arcana and Arc System Works) and Akatsuki EN-Eins (co-drawn by French Bread and Subtle except Blitztank drawn by Arc System Works) used are also meant to be used for upcoming Arcana Heart 4: Rise to the New Age and Fighting Soldat (an HD remake-based compilation to Akatsuki EN-Eins entries, and a would be subsequent title). Same goes for the Nasuverse characters who are introduced (re-introduced for old characters' case) after Tsukihime Blue and Red Remake and Melty Blood: Type Lumina, mainly from upcoming Kagetsu Tohya remake and Melty Blood: Type Act (a remake of Melty Blood Act sub-series).
